    2. Sorry to send this to the whole list-- Many have volunteered on recording the cemeteries in Ogle. I am writing to those who have-- seeing how you are all coming on this and if you have a estimated time frame when it will be done. Or if you have to give the cemetery up for personal reasons-- that is fine too. Please let me know how all is going. Laurie

    1. Cemeteries up for adoption
    2. We are looking for volunteers to re-walk our Ogle County Cemeteries. The last time they were recorded by the Ogle County Genealogy Society was in the early 1980's. Presently many of our cemeteries have been re-walked and transcribed and on line at the Ogle GenWeb Site. There still are more open for adoption. Please see this link. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilogle/CemeteryProject.htm To do this one needs to have access to the cemetery-- so living in another state makes it hard, unless a vacation is planned! Many of our volunteers also take digital photos of the stones, making it faster to record and then upload the photos on their computer to see and enter into a spreadsheet such as Excel or Microsoft Works. (I have templates to help) I do it this way, also having pencil and paper for those stones that are hard to read. If you are interested please email me, stating which cemetery you wish to adopt. I do have a spam blocker on my email so you may receive a generated email back, please reply to it so I can then add you to my address book. Thanking you in advance Laurie Hendrickson Ogle County Cemetery Coordinator.

    1. Lawnridge Cemetery--Rochelle
    2. Hi List, As some of you may know I am working on re-walking Lawnridge, along with taking digital photos. Some of these photos are now on line at this link. http://illinoisgravestones.org/ Click on "Cemeteries" and then pick Ogle for the county. Presently I have posted over 250 photos. This is only a small dent in this large cemetery. To understand the scale of Lawnridge, I have walked about 1/2 of Section "A" in Lawnridge, having over 1100 photos. Lawnridge is divided into three sections. I am told there are over 7000 burials-- so this is definitely an on going process. The photos that are being uploaded are entered alphabetical so although I have photographed names from A-Z they will get posted alphabetical. So check back often on this site. If you have your own photos you want to upload for this or other cemeteries in Ogle, please feel free to do so. Laurie Hendrickson Ogle County Cemetery (re-walk) Coordinator

But to no avail have I found anything to justify Alanson in the 3rd PA calvary. as a 60 yr old man buried in Washington Grove Cem. I was under the impression he was buried in Chapel Hill Cem. I also have checked the prisons for William H. and also have for several years Joseph son of Orrin. According to Sun Rides High he was a prisoner of Anderson Prison. I tried looking for him by googling Honor Roll 1929 site for IL, but the only person listed was William. Did you know that there was a Burright at Andersonville Prison. Then this means if we all agree we can get David Zellers to go to the Veteran's admin. and get the stone raised and put a foundation under it. I just completed the work of getting a new stone for Cornelius W. Burright in Independence, OR, Hilltop Cemetery. I had to go thru the funeral home there. They made all the arrangements. When visiting there I had just missed the small ceremony when his stone was delivered. There was a few words said by the Army they saluted the stone then they left it for the funeral home to deal with. I need to call the funeral home and they will send a picture upon request. joyce p.s. David Zellar if you can make the arrangements I am for fixing Alanson Burright stone. If there is any other Veteran's stone needing fixing they will do it upon request by a funeral home. jep

    2. http://www.geostats.info/state/IL/county/Ogle/ I just found this site, it lists many things about Ogle, including old schools, once you click the link it gives you a map with the location. It is not the clearest, but the having the names alone may prove insight on things http://www.geostats.info/ If you click this above link you can also search any state and county. Laurie

I researched my other notes and there is another brother who is a masonic member which was noted I believe in his obituary. I need to go back and refresh memory. Orrin was recognized for taking his wagon with people aboard going around jin the county where he lived recruiting volunteers for the Civil War.

Alanson Burright's burial was listed in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Lafayette Township, date of death Sept. 9,1869 at 55 yrs( question mark is placed by the 55yrs in book). CHAPEL HILL CEMETERY, OREGON, OGLE, ILL: BURRIGHT FAMILY PLOT Milton 1815-1905 Margaret 1840-1845 David 1842-1843 Susan 1849-1872 Alanson died Sept 9, 1869 @ age 55y William (no dates) Co. A 11th PA Cavalry Milton made arrangements to have William buried in their Burright family plot. William came back from the Civil War injured by a fence post which part of it impaled William in the chest. William died 1875/76. Letters from his CW pension papers relate the transitions and the burial. See my notes... William H. pension record .....In regards to a letter from Mrs. O. Dugdale (dated April 1, 1910) re: " William Burright he died January 21, 1876 at his sister's Mrs. Elizabeth Hopkins who was then living at Monroe Center, Ill and my father (Milton) had him buried on his lot in the pleasant Hill cemetry in Lafaette twp." (I was informed there is no Pleasant Hill Cemetery not sure what this means then) Letter dated May 2, 1910...from Mrs. O. Dugdale to Mrs. Elizabeth Nulty. re William Burrights death (I thought E.Nulty & Wm got married in PA but no record could be found. I believe Wm and Mary E.C. IhIey married they had a child, Wade, born 1865 VA) Wilson, Wm's brother, stated in his letter Wm died 13 Jan 1875. Anyways...back to the point. I am still wondering if this GAR medal might be Williams. Or was Alanson involved in some kind of CW effort? There are several other BURRIGHTs listed in other groups in this cemetery, as follows: BURRIGHT Cornelius 1774-1873 Eliza J. (wife of O.) died April 7, 1856 @ age 43y Smith died Oct 10, 1841 @ age 51y 6m 2d (age don't match up he was born 1845 died 1846) BURRIGHT Susan (wife of A.) died Feb 18, 1874 @ age 59y 5m 16d Ashbel died Oct 31, 1880 @ age 75y James died May 31, 1872 @ age 37y 4m Susan P.
