A fact of interest for Mt. Morris and Ogle Co. researchers: a big piece of Washington Co., MD got transplanted to the Mt. Morris area in 1830's-40's. I have the 1900 edition of Mount Morris: Past and Present (sorry, folks, it doesn't have an index!), and it seems that the news of another arriving family from Washington County was sort of ho-hum. So if you get stuck going backwards in time, it might pay to check the Maryland census. Mary S. Neff Montrose, NY
In my list of surnames that I posted yesterday, I referred to a strange twist. I was recently interviewing (AKA picking the brain) of my mother to get her family background. It seems that she talked very little about her mother's side and I had forgotten most of what she had said over the years. I was reviewing what little I had of my father's ancestors; William C. WHITE born in 1837 in Lenox, NY, (?) moved with his family to Lindenwood and married Anetta STRANG, dod May 12, 1892 Mom was astounded! I had forgotten that her mother, Jesse Josephine THOMPSON, dob Apr 9, 1895 d/o Inger Risting Melhus and Jacob THOMPSON was also born in Lindenwood in 1895. Inger and Jacob immigrated from Stavanger, Norway after her first husband who had asked his best friend to marry his wife and care for the children and her, had passed away. The astonishment came when Mom heard my ggrandmother's maiden name. It seems that Jacob and Inger had tennent farmed on the "Strang" farm. We just don't know if it belonged to Anetta's family. I have no record of William's or Anetta"s parents. I have gotten most of my information from my grandfather Earl R. WHITE's Memoirs. He mentions many people from Lindenwood. I will try to compile a list and get it on line soon. Earl R. WHITE, dob Dec 29, 1890, married Hazel RISEBOROUGH, dod Mar 6, 1922 I have recently received an overwhelming amount of information on my husband's family, volunteered for the Cemetery Project and will probably have to retire for the second time just to get caught up. Please be patient with me. Frustrated but willing to share what I have, Linda
Jeannie, My grandfather's cousin Katie Yeakle, born about 1860, married Scott Poffenbarger, born about 1855. Their daughters were Cora and Nellie. Nellie married Newton M. Wagner in 1902. Children Aletha, Helen, Ethel. Cora married Frank Wagner. If any of those people are yours, please let me know. Regards, Mary S. Hello Everyone, I was born in Moline, IL, moved to Rockford with my family when I was 7 and talked my husband into returning to his birthplace when I was 29. I wouldn't trade these foothills of the Appalachians for the world. We are now about as rural as one can get and I love it! Now for the But.... While living in Moline, we made the trip up Rt. 2 frequently to visit relatives in Rkfd and visa versa. It was old home week reading the recent Ems about that road. Next time I visit, I'll travel it again. My family back ground has an interesting twist and I am so glad that this list has started and pray that I will be able to learn more through you all. (Not to be confused with ya'll) I have just begun my research. The surnames so far are as follows: WHITE THOMPSON STRANG RISEBOROUGH I am most willing to share any information that I have so far. Linda White Jarrells
