The cemetery on Rt. 64 just west of Mt. Morris is called "Oak Wood Cemetery". The cemetery in town is called "Plainview Cemetery". There are many other small cemeteries in the general area of Mt. Hello... I show only one Hitt in my files... Robert S. Hitt who married Parmelia M. Thomas, daughter of Joshua Thomas and Salina Landis. Does anyone have any info on them? Parmela and Robert lived in Chicago .. I believe Parmelia was born about 1834 in Ogle County, Illinois. Also..it seems that Samuel Hitt was a close friend of my Coffman family.. " In the summer of 1838, James Coffman with his brother John C. Coffman and Samuel Hitt, set out over land and they traveled all the way to Illinois on horse back and settled on some land in Ogle County, near Mt. Morris, and also took up a mill site in Pine Creek township. He returned to his former home back in Maryland and on July 4, 1840 James set out with his family from Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland with a party to settle in Ogle County." ~Jason Coffman

Hi, I don't know about the Samuel Hitt Colony, or Company, but while researching my own family, I became mixed up with the Samuel Hitt Family, which is large enough to be a colony. They are all Buried in Mt. Morris. I don't have my records at hand, but the Cemetery is on Rt. 64. I believe the name is Mt. Morris Cemetery. They are buried next to the "Daniel Jarvis PINKNEY Family", an off-shoot to my MANNING Fam. If you would like me to look up what I have, I will be glad to do it.
