I believe the records are in the Museum in Byron, there may be duplicates around with board members and such... Mr. Blanchard died a few weeks ago, so I know there is a change in process... I believe the new caretaker's name is LEWIS... I think Ogle County Genealogical Society did walk throughs in the 70's there could be something there... I think their address is online... I would call the Museum and ask... They can only tell they don't have em, which I don't think will be the case... Ok, you bet... Most likely there is a stone, its just fallen and been consumed by the ground... Maybe someone to probe the area for stones could help.. Kathy, Thanks very much! This is my George Northrup and three of his daughters. The Snyders are likely not connected, but I don't know for sure yet, and I didn't have that part of the list. Nancy M. Northrup is the one who is missing from the cemetery list (along with three of her adult children: Orlando Northrup, Mary Northrup and Sarah Northrup). They are all in the 1880 census, so I know they all died after that. They are not in the Illinois Archives Death Certificates database, so probably died before 1916 if they died in Illinois. Are the Ogle cemetery lists are based only on the inscriptions on the markers that exist? I assumed that to be the case and was hoping to find out if there are any other records. Would the City Clerk's office have the information on who purchased the cemetery lots and who is actually buried in them? Who is the custodian for the Byron Cemetery? I would guess that whoever handles the current cemetery records would have the old ones or at least know whether they exist. Thanks for the suggestions. I can find the funeral homes on the Web. (If the funeral directors don't know if/where the records are, probably nobody does... ) I was looking for a faster way, but I guess I may have to get a death records search some way. I'll be in big trouble if these people didn't die in Ogle County because beyond that I don't have a clue. Where can I write for information on actual burial records for Byron Cemetery? I am looking for Nancy M. (Snyder) Northrup, wife of George Northrup who died in 1873. Nancy died after 1880 and probably before 1900. I think she is probably buried with her husband, but her name is not on the grave marker, and she is not on the Byron Cemetery list. Ann Sullivan

Thank you for the address and telephone number. I knew I could count on the Listers to have the answer. Sharon
Dear Listers ~ I have been given a book of churches entitled "Spirit on the Prairie" by Mrs. Pauline Fry (wife of Reverend Ralph Fry who was the minister of West Branch Church) and I need an address to send this book to. The book is a compilation of churches all over IL put together by the DAR Chapters within the state. Does anyone have an address or a telephone number of the West Branch Church of the Brethren of Mount Morris? I recently discovered some old pictures that belonged to my husband's mother and decided to research the history of his family in Ogle, Illinois. He is a descendant of Hugh Rea, who, I believe, came from County Down, in Ireland, about 1847. He settled in Ogle, and began to buy land there in 1848. I'm not clear as to whether Hugh's mother and father, John Rea and Jane Thompson, came with him from Ireland or not. Hugh married Mary Ann Keenan, from New York. One of their sons, John Thompson Rea, was a County Superintendent of Schools in Illinois, but I'm not sure which county that was. John Thompson Rea is my husband's grandfather. He was married to Emily Sanford Light, also of Ogle,. Emily Sanford Light was the daughter of Emily Light and Elbert K. Light. I can find lots of Lights in Ogle County, but I'm not sure which family Elbert belonged to. Emily Light the elder was the daughter of Ezra and Mary Bond (my husband and his siblings all retain the middle name Bond). I can't figure out which Bond family Ezra belongs to, though I have found records of his land purchases in Ogle, and, while I know that Mary Bond's maiden name appears to have been Fuller, and she reported in the 1880 census that she was born in Canada, I haven't been able to trace her heritage either. On the maternal side of my husband's family, he is a descendant of the Vanderbecks. His mother had a geneaology done at an earlier point, and we can trace them back to the 1500's in New York. I'm not sure yet how they got to Illinois. I am going to send copies of the photographs I found to Roger Cramer, in case anyone is interested, and I'd be grateful for any leads or suggestions that anyone has about tracing the Reas (now Ray) or Bonds or Lights back a bit further. Thank you, Barbara Wood

This is a bio that was published in the 1978 book, Pottawattamie County, Iowa A Collection of Historical Sketches and Family Histories Published by the Pottawattamie County History Book Committee I have permission from one of the two living members of this committee to put this book online and saw the Ogle Co. connection so thought maybe someone could use this bio. DEWEY AND ANNA BOWMAN In the 1700's in Germany Peter and Barbara Shaner Reisinger had eleven children, came to America, settled in the middle west, some in Ogle County, Illinois, later some came to Iowa in wagons. One daughter Sarah (1832-1915) married Joseph Bowman (1818-1871) at Creston, went to Ogle County, Illinois, had six children, came to Iowa by wagon. Some worked as Masonry workers and Carpenters. One son a carpenter, Sampson Reisinger Bowman (1865-1943) bought land at Wheeler Grove to farm. Married Evaline Osler, had three children, Ivan, Vivian and Blanche. Evaline died of childbirth, also the infant. Later Sampson married Jessie Ronk (1874-1941) had one son Dewey (1899-1976). Jessie had a top buggy with Flossie her horse she drove into Carson (app. 7 miles). Sampson drove horses and wagon occasionally to Carson. They also had a Model T touring car for transportation. Jessie and Samp were both deaf. Dewey lived on the farm til late teens when he went to Council Bluffs to work in an Automotive shop a couple of years, returning to Carson to apprentice at the Hooker Bros. Garage. Started driving the Carson school bus in early 1920's (drove for 30 years). June 1923 Dewey married Anna Shaw (born Jan. 1903 at Tabor, parents Elizabeth and Samuel Shaw). December 1924 had a daughter, Dorothy who is married to James Grove, Red Oak, they have a son James, a daughter Carol (Mrs. Conrad Smith, Menlo, Ia.), two grandsons, Thomas and David. Dewey bought his own garage in 1926, sold it in 1974. He worked at Red Oak 1952-1955 at Union Carbide Corp. He was a former Mayor of Carson, also Postmaster from 1963-1966. Dewey spent most of his life in Carson, Anna now resides in Red Oak. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
