Here is another aerial photo site that is fun to use. http://www.terrafly.fiu.edu/ Be patient. It is slow to load even with DSL, but the images are seamless and very large, and you won't get lost like you sometimes do with Terraserver. When the FlyFrame image appears go to full screen and click near the edge of the image to "fly". Click on the "?" for instructions. For practice, start at Oregon and fly up the river to Byron. Flying is free, but there is a small fee to print an image. Ann Sullivan
Enjoy one of the few "free" things from Microsoft at the TerraServer site: http://terraserver.microsoft.com/ Use the advanced find, put in David Zeller's shop address and see if you can spot him waving at the satellite! Not really folks. The photos are year dated so the information may/ may not be entirely current. Great for locating cemetaries and if you are fortunate to have some land coordinates from plots it is a great way to stay up past your bedtime. I tried the site indicated for Aerial Maps and, yes, it does provide aerial photographs and topographical maps. However, the site kept attempting to make me provide a user name and password, and several times indicated that I was not authorized to view the information sought. This is a very useful site, and I would like to be properly registered and authorized, but there was no indication how that could be accomplished. Does anyone have any information on Terraserver, and what or how is required for registration?

Hi List Below is a link to Ogle county, at first it is just lines, but as you center and zoom in on an area it will take you to actual photos of the place-- I can actually see my house on this. The photo must have been taken in the early 1990's as we moved here after the barn and corn crib burned and they are not in the photo, and they burned in the 90's, anyway, if you know where your people lived or you live here yourself, it is neat to actually see the area now. Adopted by David and Helen Price. " If this date and age is correct she was born 11/1/1840. This would make her Otho Daniel's sister, not his daughter. and David and Helen Price were both born in 1832. so why would she have been adopted by them? Otho's sister was married in 1863, their father Daniel died in 1865. so why would she have been adopted by them at all? The other one is Henry Dallas. I can't find his cemetery record. or the record of William.

Doug Mumma has an ongoing DNA testing project to determine ancestry in the Mumma family. There were Mummas who came to Ogle Co. and if any of you would like to take part in the testing, here are details: MUMMA SURNAME DNA PROJECT Great progress has been made with the Mumma DNA project. The latest results, covering three years effort, are now available for viewing at http://www.mumma.org/DNA.htm It is a big file, (480 KB) so be patient if you are using a dial-up modem connection as there are lots of graphs and tables to view. We are still awaiting the results of 4 additional men. Probably the most exciting thing was the results from one participant who is a known descendant of Peter Mumma, the immigrant. His DNA "fingerprint" perfectly matched that of the two descendants of the "unattached" Christian Mumma (who migrated to Springfield, Ohio). While there was circumstantial evidence that Christian was a descendant of Peter, this DNA evidence is the clinching evidence. Of course we don't know from which son he descends, but birth dates narrows the possible connection to only one or two of Peter's sons. This was the kind of result I dreamed about when the project was launched 3 years ago and now it has become a reality. As the DNA testing techniques become more refined, additional information will become available to assist in defining specific Mumma branches. In time, we might be able to use DNA testing to even identify from which son of Peter Christian descends. There is a project sign-up link on the DNA report. I would appreciate more men participating in the project and assist us in mapping and defining the MUMMA surname DNA fingerprint.
