They do not have a website. I didn't want people to be confused, unless you know something different http://www.nils.lib.il.us/membercommunication/memberlibraryinfo/viewmem.cfm?version=graphic&memLibID=RCHP Laurie
I have found the Rockford Public Library Genealogy a treasure trove of information, and not just the usual material. There is a ton of information about other areas. This library is a well kept secret, and should be used much more often!! JWL

Doctorow Named in 1998 for the noted author, the E.L Doctorow Local History Collection contains historical and other material on New Rochelle, Westchester County, and New York State. There are approximately 1500 books, on such topics as Biography and Genealogy, Government, Organizations, Places, Business and Industry, Transportation, Maps and Atlases, and Newspapers and Magazines. There is also a large Clippings File of some 82,885 items, obtained from local newspapers, magazine clippings, New York Times items, obituaries, local association and art show programs, etc. Subjects covered here include Biography, History, Organizations, Places, Business and Industry, and Transportation. The materials in this collection do not circulate. The collection is housed on the 2nd floor of the Library. The New Rochelle Photograph Collection is made up of over 1,000 photographs donated by Dominick Bruzzese and the Huguenot-Thomas Paine Historical Association. In 1988, in celebration of New Rochelle's Tricentennial, these photographs were reproduced on acid-free paper with funds provided by a Discretionary Grant from the New York State Program for the Conservation and Preservation of Library Research Material. These reproductions are filed in five notebooks according to subject (for example, churches, clubs, streets, business, and the waterfront). This collection is also housed on the 2nd floor. Copies of these photographs may be ordered through our Community Relations office for $8.00 per print. Please call (914) 632-7878 ext. 20 or 21 for more information or come visit us.

As usual, the Library will be closed Saturdays from June 28th through August 30th. The complete summer schedule is as follows: Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays - 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesdays - 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Fridays - 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. In addition to the traditional book collections, the following special collections of the Library are noted: Located on the 2nd floor, the E. L. Doctorow Local History Collection collects and preserves old and current library materials pertaining to the history of New Rochelle, and those works about Westchester County and New York State that assist patrons in putting New Rochelle’s own history in perspective. The New Rochelle Photograph Collection The Local Author Collection on the 2nd floor collects and preserves significant works by authors, illustrators, and performers who are identified with the City of New Rochelle through birth and/or residency. Also the Rockford Public Library (30 or so miles North of Rochelle) has an extensive local history room on the 3rd floor. Also has all of the Rockford newspapers on microfilm since 1850's. They usually reported any deaths within the surrounding counties and local news. The obits for these may be minimal however.
Some of you may know Bob Mosher who was active in Carroll and Whiteside County genealogy. I received word today that he passed away last week from a heart attack. The Regional Superintendent's Office for Lee and Ogle counties is located in Grand Detour, IL (Ogle County). It is on Route 2 just before you enter Grand Detour on the east side of town. We were there in 2001 and were able to copy records. The records had to be brought to the building from Oregon....you might want to telephone and have the records in Grand Detour for the day you will be visiting. The ladies were very, very helpful. Hi Dee, I think you may already have photos of Adam Hizer's tombstone, but if not I have 3 photos I took yesterday of them. email off line at [email protected] and I can send them to you. I was at Lawnridge Cemetery today and asked about Flagg Center Cemetery. The guy there was not sure who was in charge of it now and said that the Township (Flagg) may have taken it over for upkeep, so you may want to write Flagg Township to see if they have an idea on the records and who the sexton is of it. The address is Flagg Township Supervisor 6th St. & 5th Ave Rochelle, IL 61068 815-562-7360 Hope this helps you with Adam Hizer Laurie

The Scrapbooks were sent to me (Sharon Nordman Ogle) for the Ogle County Historical Society, Ruby Nash Museum. Sharon Hildebrand copied the pages from the books for the Byron Museum. The "original" Scrapbooks are in the Ruby Nash Museum (Ogle County Historical Society) in Oregon, IL. The lady that sent the books to the Ogle County Historical Society did not charge us anything and the Society is very appreciative of her generosity. I wanted to clear this up as the lady who donated the Scrapbooks to the Ogle County Historical Society is a member of this List and I don't want any misunderstanding as to where the Scrapbooks ended up. She was very generous and the membership is very grateful for her thoughtfulness. Sincerely, Sharon Nordman Ogle (Ogle County Historical Society Board Member)
