Johann Harberts was born in 1837 in Hanover Germany and came to Illnois. He settled near Freeport, Il. and after the civil war married Sena Brinkima. They had 2 sons and George and Ernest. In 1859 they moved to Riley, County , Kansas. I am trying to find out if he came to America with other family members... Any help is appreciated Laura

Hi List, I wanted to write and let people know that there is an on-going project to record all the cemeteries in Ogle County and get these on line through the web site for all to see. If you live near Ogle and would like to help out we would be more then happy to have you volunteer. Below is the link to the project page. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilogle/CemeteryProject.htm This is not a hard job, but could be time consuming depending on how big the cemetery is- but it entails walking the cemetery and recording all that is on the head stone, with any notes you see needed. Such as "broken stone" "Hard to read" or if another name is on the headstone, to add that the stone is shared with---blank-- Since I own a CD Digital camera I have taken photos of the stones and then viewed them on my computer and then entered the data into a spreadsheet. For the most part people have Excel or a MS Works spread sheet on their computers, We ask that the data is entered into the spreadsheet and then emailed to me, where I will format it to a text file that can be viewed through the web site. There is also the option of entering the data into the www.findagrave.com web site, which others have done and there is a link you will see. Hi List-- I was searching through the 1920-21 Rochelle Independent Newspaper today and skimmed over a little article and thought it was funny-- well maybe! It was informing the residents that Dog Licenses were due by July 1st 1920, then it continued to say that any dog without a license on by Oct 1st 1920 will be SHOT! Nothing like enforcing the law! Here's what I know (or think I know!). He was born in 1830-1834 in Kerry, Ireland and died April 15, 1886 He is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Oregon., IL. She was born in 1835 in Camp, Ireland and died April 30, 1909 The 1880 census shows them living in Oregon, Ogle, IL with son James (b. 1855, I believe his by a previous marriage), son Patrick (b 1869), daughter Ellen (b. 1873) and her sons by a previous marriage - John (b. 1861) and Jerry (b. 1866) O'Conor. The 1870 census also shows James Sr., Ellen Sr., James Jr., John and Jerry, plus Katie (b 1863) and Patrick (b. 1868) Connor. Patrick from both census records must be the same son, just listed under a different last name. Now, I do find a marriage record for a James Hoare and Ellen Lynch in LaSalle County on May 18, 1866. This "works" for my couple if Patrick is really James' son and Ellen was pregnant with Jerry O'Connor when she married James Hoar. Maybe I'm stretching it?? I believe young Ellen Hoar married George Emil Colson (son of Gusttavis/Augustus and Christine Colson, brother of Gussie, Huldie, Frank and Robert) in 1897, and they had Eleanor Mamie [Greenwood] (b. 1898), John (b. 1900), Clara (b. 1902-3), Leo (b. 1905), Robert (b. 1906-7) and Gustavison (b. 1909). Now, to confuse things more, Ellen's year of birth seems to vary by 11 years - from 1870 to 1881 - depending on where I look!
