Surnames: Alden, York, Wilder Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Jh.2ADE/1277 Message Board Post: I am looking for information about Perry & Marinda and their descendants. She was the daughter of Adonijah and Vesta York Alden. He was probably the son of Lorenzo and Sarah Marshall Wilder. Perry & Marinda were married in 1856 in Ogle Co, IL. I think that he served in the Civil War and she may have been living in the Montour, Tama Co, IA, area during the war. Marinda was my gr-gr-grandfather's sister.
I am no relation but there was a Captain Albert Woodcock who was the commanding officer of Company K, 92nd Illinois Mounted Infantry Volunteers during the Civil War. He is listed as being from Oregon, IL, my hometown. I do have a Civil War book entitled "Blue Lightning" which has his military photo. My great grandfather, also in the 92nd IL, was married in Ogle County in 1873. The county clerk who signed his marriage license was Albert Woodcock. It is my understanding that Albert would not charge the marriage license fee to any of his boys from the "Old 92nd". Thank you for this wonderful find!!! Sincerely, Layne (Mr.) Layne A. Each county map may include the following 19th century features: * roads, railroads and canals * cities, towns and villages * post offices and government sites * one-room schoolhouses, churches and cemeteries * rivers, streams and ferries * racetracks, fairgrounds and picnic groves * industrial sites, furnaces and mills * early homesteads and farms * and much, much more The Historic Atlas of Illinois series is an invaluable aid to Genealogists, Historians and researchers in search of 19th century Illinois places. The Adobe Acrobat Reader for MS Windows is needed to view, zoom, pan and print from the PDF map images contained in this atlas; and is included free on each CD. No other software is necessary. Yes, this is still available and I would guess will be an ongoing sale item. I just had one delivered. The seller is Nancy Riggs. She has an Ebay Store at http://www.stores.ebay.com/id=7319266&ssPageName=L2 so you don't have to go through the auction stuff. She is reliable and has CD's from many different areas. I have no idea where she found the information and I'll bet she isn't telling <smile>. You can contact her at [email protected] or through her store. In rural areas it was common for book sellers to go to an area's historical society and create a history book for the county. If you wanted a listing more than 2-3 lines, you would send in your information and buy a book when it was printed. They were limited run books but very well done. If you can find one these are gems to read, giving local history and much family information. A few are still being created, usually by a local, industrious history buff. I recently bought one from Emmet County, Michigan. Found the Rosencranz entries intriguing as I have strong roots in the southern tier of Ogle County. A couple of points which might be of interest--Dorson A. Rosencranz received a disability discharge on 8 Sept 1863. Where did he go? Some of the SE Ogle Co. families migrated on west to Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas. Might he have been among those? Another food for thought--Dorset Rosencranz arrived in Ogle Co. about the same time as Charles Royce--1835. There was another cemetery in Lafayette Township which was abandoned in the 1940s. I believe it may have been called Mt. Pleasant. Was located on what is now Rt. 38 and is near the old Yorty Corners and property owned at one time by the Royce family. A house built in the 1940s is on the property. I have no idea if the records still exist. [I believe the Royce descendants went from IL to either Kansas or Nebraska] I wish I could offer more concrete information; however, I thought this might strike a chord with someone who knows more than I do.
