Barton H. Cartwright born in Alburn, NY. on March 9, 1810 he was the son of James Cartwright and Catherine Gray. His father was a Baptist Minister of New York and died in 1822. He married Miss Chloe J. Benedict daughter of Stephen Benedict the ceremony was performed in Ogle Co., ILL. on April 10, 1839. Chloe's father died when she was young and her mother remarried to James Clark who came to Ogle County, ILL. in 1835. His children were eight total 4 sons / 4 daughters, six of which were living in 1886: 1. Ellen Cartwright married Frank W. March of Taylor Twp., Ogle Co. 2. James H. Cartwright married Hattie Holmes in Ogle Co., ILL. and is a Attourney in Oregon, OC., ILL. 3. Charles B. Cartwright is single andlives in Montana 4. It will be published the summer of 2004. One of the names I am researching is that of Dr. J.D. Covell. He was a physician and settled in Forreston IL around 1871. He later ran a store and was a dealer in drugs, medicines, paints, oils, glass, putty, books, fancy goods, etc. and ran advertising in the Forreston Paper in the 1870’s. I am trying to determine which building he had his store in. A lead on any photos would be greatly appreciated. He also went into business with a man named Beebe and produced a Success oil can. He was appointed postmaster Sept. 2 1885. He was married to a Helen Blossom. I found the obituary for Lyman Covell, his father of Elmira, NY (which is also where J.D. Covell is buried).

He was born in 1860, so if he was involved in the underground R.R. it was before his 6th birthday. He was the first one to spell his name Eykamp. He had a cousin, Alderk, who arrived here before Gerhard, but he spelled his name Eikamp. As for thr underground R.R. There were two stone barns, one on each side of Byron. The story is that there was a tunnel that connected them and the river bank. One of those barns is still standing. I also remember hearing of a hidden closet in a house in Mt. Morris.
