Surnames: ALLAN, STURDY, DUNLAP, HOLMES Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Ih.2ADE/1191 Message Board Post: Obit Mary Allan Sturdy Summoned by Death (June 9, 1938) Mrs. Mary Allan Sturdy passed away at the home of her daughter Mrs. Scott Holmes, one mile west of Lynnville Thursday evening, at 6:15 o'clock. Mrs. Sturdy's death followed an extended illness. She was born in this county, the daughter of Peter and Jane Dunlap Allan, January 7, 1859. She was united in marriage in this city September 22, 1881, to George Sturdy, who preceded her in death January 13, 1922. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Maude Holmes, near Lynnville; three sons, Earl Sturdy of Jacksonville; Lee Sturdy of Murrayville and Clyde Sturdy of Winchester and two brothers, Robert Allan of Riggston and John Allan of Jacksonville. She also leaves seven grandchildren: Mrs. Richard Kempter, Waynsboro, Penn.; Mrs. Walter Sanders, White Hall; Robert Allan Sturdy, Quincy,; Nylene Sturdy, Jacksonville; George Lee Sturdy, Murrayville,; Dickie Sturdy, Winchester; Bob Vernon Holmes, Winchester, and one great grandson Richard Ray, son of Mr. & Mrs. Ray Sanders. Two sons Lloyd M. Sturdy and Allan R. Sturdy and one daughter, Georgia Gibbs preceded their mother in death. Mrs. Sturdy was a member of the Lynnville M. E. church. Jacksonville Journal. Largely attended funeral services were at 2:00 o'clock Sunday afternoon from the Gillham funeral home, in charge of Rev. W. W. Gant assisted by Rev. C. R. Underwood. Music was furnished by Mr. & Mrs. Yates Potter, accompanied by Mrs. Wm. Ranson. The Flowers were cared for by Miss Grace Middleton, Mrs. Zella Scott, Mrs. Mable Lewis, Mrs. Eva Acom, Mrs. W. A. Fay, and Mrs. Edna Mawson. The casket bearers were Floyd and Robert Allan, Charles and Fred German, Charles Schofield, Walter Fearneyhough, Fred Meggison, and Robert Middleton. Interment took place in Diamond Grove Cemetery.
