I have a Follis family that originated in Virginia, migrated to Kentucky (?yr) had a son there in 1825 but by 1835 had moved on to Morgan Co, Illinois. Occasionally, there name was spelled FALLIS, but most often, it was FOLLIS. I'll start with the earliest that I can document so far, but hoping to find where they came from in Virginia. Jeremiah Follis born ca 1786 Virginia died after 1870 Morgan Co, Ill, lived Kentucky 1825 (don't know how long he had been there). By 1835 he appears in the Illinois State census (Morgan Co)...and again on the 1850 and 1870 Fed census-still Morgan Co, Ill. He had a younger wife in 1850 most likely his 2nd wife, named Priscilla (maiden name unknown). They would have married about 1835 possibly in Kentucky or Illinois? One of Jeremiah's older sons, Silas Andrew J. Follis born 1825 Kentucky, married his first wife (Manerva) about mid 1850, likely in Morgan Co as he and Manerva listed in the 1850 census. I have not yet found their 1850 marriage. Manerva must have died as Silas remarried in 1865 (have copy) in Morgan Co to Sarah E. DENNIS ELDER (2nd marriage for both). By 1870 Silas and Sarah had moved to Fannin Co, Tx.and in 1880 they were in Dallas Co,Tx with more kids (one married son in Ellis Co, Tx 1880). By 1900, Silas (now 75 and widowed) had moved in with an older son living in the Indian Territory, Chickasaw Nation even tho it is doubtful they were Indian. One of his sons stayed in the area and appeared on the Marshall Co, Ok census of 1910 and 1920. IF ANY OF THIS SOUNDS FAMILIAR....love to hear from you, happy to share data including all sources of above. Joyce Terrana, Burleson, Tx
Joyce - I found another copy of the 1860 Morgan County census - if they were in Morgan county during the time this census was taken, their name isn't spelled correctly in the index I have - have looked at every combination I can think of but do not find them. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, September 16, 2000 12:23 AM Subject: [ILMORGAN] Follis family > I have a Follis family that originated in Virginia, migrated to Kentucky > (?yr) had a son there in 1825 but by 1835 had moved on to Morgan Co, > Illinois.
