The Jacksonville Area Genealogical and Historical Society is dedicated to the collection and preservation of genealogical and historical material. As you all know there is much much more to genealogy than births, marriages and deaths. We are constantly working on collections of family histories, local happenings and have helped many researchers over the years. Our library is growing daily. We are also always looking for volunteers to help with library duties which range from cutting out newspaper clippings and dusting to research etc. So if you have a special skill or no skills there is a place for everyone!! Things on our calendar: The VALUE CARDS are available now. 24 area businesses, most from Jacksonville, one Winchester, one Murrayville and one Beardstown business are offering a discount or value on our cards this year. Donation to the society libarary is $5 and the card can be used repeatedly from now until Oct 15, 2004. Your support is invaluable to our maintaining the best genealogy library we possibly can. On Nov 6, we will be at the American Legion Hall in Jacksonville with some crafts and the value cards. Stop by and get your cards, renew your membership or join if you are not a member. Also on the evening of Thursday, NOV 4, Lonzerotti's restaurant is generously offering to donate a percentage of their profits to our society library. Please call 243-7151 to make your reservations today! On Friday, Nov 12, Mr. David Moore will have a book signing at the society library from 1pm to 6 pm. His book ''Forgotten Valor'' is about two local brothers who were in WWI. Also, Mr. Moore, who is a former resident and graduate of Illinois College, will be the guest speaker at the Christmas dinner to be held on Dec 9 at Hamiltons.
