Hello, listers-- I am new to the list, and I am making this query on behalf of a Routt family relative. J. J. (James J.) Routt served in an Illinois company during the Civil War, and I believe he may have died in Morgan County in about 1870. I do not know the township in which he resided, nor the specific company in which he served. I have found an entry for I.I. Routt in the state Civil War veterans database, and because J.J.'s "dogtags" have a strip of metal that says "J.J. Routt" engraved almost in italics, I think "J.J." could have been mistranscribed as "I.I." The record is as follows: ROUTT, I I REC A 28 IL US INF HOWARD Does anyone on the list have a copy of the History of Morgan County (I'm assuming one exists), and if so, could someone look up I.I. (or J.J.) Routt in the list of Civil War vets (if a separate list exists) and send any details? Many thanks-- Tim Bryant
