The Jacksonvielle Area Genealogical and Historical Society is dedicated to the collection of genealogical and historical material from Morgan County and surrounding counties. As we all know there is much more to genealogy than birth, marriages and deaths. We are constantly working on collections of family histories, local happenings and have helped many researchers over the years. Our genealogical library is growing daily. We are also always looking for volunteers to help with library duties if interested. Things on our calendar: The VALUE CARDS are available now. 24 area businesses are supporting this fundraiser and offer a value or discount on the cards to be used repeatedly from Oct 15 2004- Oct 15 2005. Proceeds from this fundraiser are used to help pay the rent, purchase new genealogical materials etc. Your support is invaluable to maintaining the best genealogy library we possibly can. On Sat. Nov 6, we will be at the American Legion Hall in Jacksonville with some crafts and value cards. We will have a variety of genealogical materials also. On Friday, Nov 12, Mr. David Morre will have a book signing at the society library from 1pm to 6 pm. His book ''Forgotten Valor'' is about two local brothers who served in WWII. Also, Mr. Moore, who is a former resident and graduate of Illinois College, will be the guest speaker at the Christmas Dinner to be held at Hamiltons on Dec 9. Please call the society library to more information. The public is invited to attend. The JAGHS Library is located at 416 S. Main St. Jacksonville. The phoen # is 217-673-5091.
