I'm happy to say I recently found the cemetery I was seeking: It is the Gravel Springs Cemetery, Section 10, Twp. 15N, Range 11W located in Jacksonville-Markham Township. Description reads: "This burial site was badly damaged during construction of a pond in1971. One upright tombstone under two oak trees can be seen from IL Rte. 104, which is a few yards north of this burial site. Several tombstones disappeared during construction of the pond and of the three remaining, one is in excellent condition, one is broken into two parts and one is badly smashed but still legible. The city of Jacksonville can be seen from this cemetery". Seven of my ancestors were buried in this site. I cannot tell if it is near a river as the description does not mention it.
