Mrs. Brown's maiden name was ELIZABETH WILSON, and she was born near York, England on February 2, 1819, being a daughter of JOHN WILSON, a carpenter and joiner. She was joined in marriage with THOMAS CARLTON BROWN at that place December 14, 1841, and after a few years residence in Yorkshire, with her husband left England for America, taking passage in an old-time sailing vessel and landing at New Orleans in 1847 after a tempestous voyage of three months and twenty days. >From here they made their way up the well traveled route of the Mississippi and Illinois rivers to this county and settled on a farm near Indian Creek, where they rented land for two years, and then moved to a farm near this place, where Mr. Brown soon became one of the leading farmers and live stock raisers of the county. He died in 1883. Charles W. Brown, the only child of their marriage, died January 26, 1881. He had four children, two daughters dying in infancy, and his two sons, THOMAS CARLTON BROWN, JR. and GEORGE EDWARD BROWN, both of this place, remain as the only grand-children. Both Mr. and Mrs. Brown were brought up in the Episcopal faith, but somewhere near 54 years ago (soon after they came to this county), they united with the Christian Church, in which faith they ended their earthly pilgrimage. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Brown made her home in the village and so long as her health permitted was a regular attendant at church services and took a great interest in all the work of the church. Funeral services were conducted from the Christian Church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, in charge of the pastor, Rev. L. W. Spayd, and were largely attended, Mrs. Brown having been known and respected by all our people for many years. Appropriate music was furnished by the church choir, and the many flowers wer cared for by Mrs. John Tranbarger and Mrs. James Tribble. Interment was made by the side of her husband in the village cemetery. The bearers were W.M. Rees, A.H. Wright, H.E. Scott, William Whalen, P.A. Sturgis and LA. Caldwell, acting by request of the deceased.

Dear Morgan Co. Friends, I am once again seeking your help to return a family Bible with written records to a descendant of the family, and to share a lovely family photo with them. Our Great Uncle George Kehl married his friend Bessie Grigsby of Nortonville in 1937, when he was abt 70 and she was 63. Up until that time she and her unmarried brother had maintained a farming household together, and when her brother Hardin died, she and George married. Needless to say, Bessie had no offspring, and neither did her brother Hardin. Yet I know that she had at least a nephew or neice, as they are in the family photo I have. Bessie died in 1943. When Uncle George died in 1959, he left a steamer trunk of family treasures, and among them was the Grigsby family Bible that must have been in Bessie's home. We are not related to the Grigsby's and would like to see this treasure where it belongs. Thank you, Juli Claussen Seeking descendants of Henry Clay and Catherine (Bush) Grigsby in order to return a family Bible to them. Many in fam bur Gunn Cem and Whitlock Cem. Known to have lived in Greene and Morgan Cos., IL. Children were: George W., 1859-1882; John W., abt. 1862-aft. 1880; Clarry (Clara?), abt. 1864-aft 1880; Hardin F., 1869-1937 no children; Edith, 1871-1934 marr. Henry Buck; possibly son or stepson Wm H. Buck Bessie, abt 1874-1943 marr. Geo. Kehl no children; James, abt 1876-aft. 1880.
