Georgeanne, One excellent resource is the LDS Family History Center in your area. Go to www.familysearch.org then to the Family History Library Catalog, where a search on Morgan Co., IL will bring up lots and lots of books and records that have been filmed. Just take the list of what you want to your local FHC, and order them. Microfilms are only 3.25 for 4 wks, and microfiche are only .30/pg and are then held permenantly at that location. I have made big in-roads with my Morgan ancestors this way. Juli Claussen
Hi all, I am new to the list. I would appreciate some guidance on materials available for Morgan Co., IL. Is there a county wide index for the 1840 census? And have the pre-1850 deeds been abstracted? If yes on either, where are these available? Thanks for any help, Georgeanne McPeters

Go to Google.com, enter exactly: "salt mines" +Illinois and you get a lot of hits. Seems centered in Saline (appropriate name) County. I GOT NOTHING EXCEPT A QUESTION
Does anyone know of any salt mines in Illinois? Mari
Elizabeth Parker, wife of Aaron Parker assume died before 1838, or they divorced. I know nothing of her. Aaron Parker died 31 May 1849, Morgan Co., IL. they had at least one son named Silas Parker born 1831and died 16 May 1846 Morgan Col, IL. If there are obits or any records for these deaths I would very much appreciate being directed to the source. Aaron was in the War of 1812, and I have written NARA for his pension records. His second wife was Phebe Russell Fry b: 21 Jul 1816 Pepperell, Big Flats, Chemung, NY d: 4 Feb 1880 Morgan Co., IL m: 21 Oct 1838 Morgan Co., IL Since Aaron's children were minors when he died, it has been suggested that I search for guardianship papers. A brother may be listed as a guardian. Is there an index on line which this info? Any help will be appreciated. Trying to connect him to some other gents from MA & VT that also migrated to IL. I came accross an old research effort of Ken Pohl who I had asked to see if he could find Jerusha and the Vanorman family in Ohio. He found two land transactions between John Russell and Frederick Vanarnam, one signed in 1806 and one in 1818. John also had land in Tuscarawas Co as did William West. A William West was the father of Joshua West who was the husband of Jerusha. These parcels of land sound like land grants issued to war veterans. William West fought in the 1812 wars against the Indians and the Mexicans. I have the registration data for the land, but without a plat description, their location would be hard to find. I have a copy of the family documents that led Ken to these findings. I would be happy to send it to you by snail mail[I'm not very good at scanning and emailing]. I have an updated tree in the WFT if you have access to this file. Part of Family Tree Maker.

However I obtained the earlier info on Isaac at the Van Norman Association Web site, at which I cannot give you at the moment. Will look and contact you personally. Sounds Dutch to me, too. The Van Norman site will probably confirm that? I have tried unsuccessfully to find the burial place of Amanda Johnson wife of Theodore Van Norman who died supposedly in 1880 in Morgan County IL near Chapin. Theodore & Amanda's daughter, Lamney Cerilda married John Kaylor. They resided in that area of Morgan, after his stint in the Civil War, where one son died also in the same time era as Amanda, whose burial place I have not located either. John and Cerilda then came to Macon/Sangamon Cos. IL where they both died and are buried. Let's share!
