I am searching for the parentage of John D. Cox, who married Lydia Chastain in Jacksonville, Morgan County in February 1830. Wouldn't you know that there were two John Cox's in that county. I found a land patent in which John and Abel Cox, Sr. both purchased. It looks like that one is yours. It's on the BLM Patent website if you would like to see it.
Go to heritagequest.com. They have the entire text. Your public library may give you free access. The question of the epidemic hass come up before on this site; look in the archives if they are available. gbyork -- LormaeeL@aol.com wrote: Return-Path: <ILMORGAN-L-request@rootsweb.com> Received: from mx09.nyc.untd.com (mx09.nyc.untd.com [10.140.24.69]) by maildeliver13.lax.untd.com with SMTP id AABARSMJMAW4MYN2 for <geobardsley@juno.com> (sender <ILMORGAN-L-request@rootsweb.com>); Fri, 16 Jul 2004 12:31:23 -0700 (PDT) Received: from lists5.rootsweb.com (lists5.rootsweb.com [66.43.18.41]) by mx09.nyc.untd.com with SMTP id AABARSMJMAA93KY2 (sender <ILMORGAN-L-request@rootsweb.com>); Fri, 16 Jul 2004 12:31:23 -0700 (PDT) Received: (from slist@localhost) by lists5.rootsweb.com (8.12.8/8.12.8) id i6GJLZ33018172; Fri, 16 Jul 2004 13:21:35 -0600 Resent-Date: Fri, 16 Jul 2004 13:21:35 -0600 X-Original-Sender: LormaeeL@aol.com Fri Jul 16 13:21:35 2004 From: LormaeeL@aol.com Message-ID: <d9.f63c87d.2e2984ac@aol.com> Date: Fri, 16 Jul 2004 15:21:16 EDT Old-To: ILMORGAN-L@rootsweb.com, IL-WESTERN-L@rootsweb.com, ILMAGA-L@rootsweb.com MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" X-Mailer: 8.0 for Windows sub 6029 X-Scanned-By: MIMEDefang 2.38 Resent-Message-ID: <c08r1B.A.obE._qC-AB@lists5.rootsweb.com> To: ILMORGAN-L@rootsweb.com Resent-From: ILMORGAN-L@rootsweb.com Reply-To: ILMORGAN-L@rootsweb.com X-Mailing-List: <ILMORGAN-L@rootsweb.com> archive/latest/4181 X-Loop: ILMORGAN-L@rootsweb.com Precedence: list Resent-Sender: ILMORGAN-L-request@rootsweb.com Subject: [ILMORGAN] Eames "Historic Morgan Classic Jacksonville." I am helping a friend research the Jouett line. She too is a descendant of Felix. Felix was born in Kentucky and moved to Illinois. His father was Jack Jouett, III. His father was Capt. John (Jack) Jouett, Jr. His father was John Jouett. Captain Jack and his father both fought in the Revolutionary War. I still do not have actual evidence that Felix's father was Jack Jouett, but I am pretty sure he was. Have you found any information since your inquiry. Clicked on his name and got info about him. Clicked on his unit which was near his name. That gave a printout of when it was formed, where it went, etc. I also checked one surname and clicked on IL. It gave a list of every person with that surname who served from IL. That might help you. I am researching the Goatley family. Two of the Goatley boys who lived in Illinois went to Kansas to enlist. Later, their father and all of their siblings moved to Kansas. If I had only looked in Illinois, I would not have found them. Happily I already knew where they had served. However, if you have no clue about some folks, you can just put in the surname and see folks from all over. Hope this helps. Kathleen (STANFIELD) COOK

In that site, click on Archives, then click on Databases. (Save this as a favorite since you will be back.) In the Databases section, there is a place where you can check for military info. You will have to play around with it. You can find listings by surname. Once you have found your person, you can check by units. I haven't searched that part of the site since spring so I've forgotten what else you can do. Maybe a list of folks from the county. If you are looking for a grave, contact T.C. Russell at s-tcr@dva.state.il.us Mr. Russell has been a big help to me when trying to locate graves of Civil War veterans. Hope this helps. Kathleen (STANFIELD) COOK

According to IL Marriages, William Buckingham married Mrs. Mary Landers in Morgan County, IL in 1837. It appears they had three children, (1) Margaret who was born in about 1842; (2) Mary, born in about 1845; (3) William, born in about 1848. I'd like to know more about Mary Landers Buckingham. What was her maiden name? When did she die? Where is she buried? I believe my second great grandfather had a sister named Mary. I wonder if there could be a connection. Thanks for any assistance you can give me.

Thomas is in Springfield, Sangamon Co IL in 1910 living in the 4th Ward, Dist #141. He has his new wife Katherine, has been married about 1 yr (states second marriage, 1 yr) and has his father in law and mother in law only in household ( no children still with him) Elizabeth Curtis has a death record--Elizabeth "Curtiss" died Hannibal, Missouri on 16 July 1903 at age 79, listed volume 3, page 397, cert # 8386 , Morgan Co IL (you ca view this listed at IL State Archives Death records online). Death record likely states place intended for burial which should give you comfirmation about perhaps East Jacksonville Cem. I don't see a listing in archives for Henry, but you might check for one anyway. Celia Elliott died in Jacksonville, Morgan Co IL at age 75, volume 2 page 102, cert # 4579, on 31 Oct 1893 (record listed online at archives). Charles Elliott is 'probably' the Charles Elliott listed as transcribed in Jacksonville East Cem. Stone states 22 Oct 1880, 65 yrs. Charles was listed as age 64 yrs old on the 1880 census and is the only Charles Elliott in this age range living in Morgan on this census. His 'proof' of place would be harder to prove as there would be no death record. I would imagine if Celia's death record states place of burial as J'ville East, she either has a missing/damaged stone, or never recieved one. Sarah A. Elliott is listed as buried J'ville East, died age 54 on 28 June 1908 in J'ville and was married at the time of death. I didn't see her listed at the State Archives but MAGA has her listed as Morgan County book 4 page 617. Her obit might be available in the old J'ville newspapers and her death record may or may not contain additional information ( sometimes informer is listed, parents, husband and place of birth and usually place of burial. Sorry can't look up 1900, but maybe some of the death records will help you. Rhonda

It might have info on her parents as well as other helpful info. Ask your local public library to obtain the microfilmed Jacksonville paper for that date through the IL Historical Library in Springfield, IL. Then you can search for the obit. Her death certificate would also have her parent's names, in most cases. Good luck! Juli

I have no Reed surname anywhere in my family records. Ms. Houle's posting in 2000 mentioned that her family had 2 Reed daughters who "married Hembrough boys." My family is very likely connected to Ms. Houle's family through those marriages, but I don't know how. I replied to her direct email address, but it was returned, "no such address". Therefore I posted here in the hope another Reed might know the Hembrough connection, or that Ms. Houle might find my posting & reply directly. If you encounter any Hembrough, Hembroff, Hembruff or Hemingbrough in Morgan Co, please post the info. Thanks! Sincerely, Bruce MacDonald
