    3. Thank you for letting us know. We deeply appreciate all that Florence has done for the genealogical community. I corresponded with her for years and subscribed to the "Journal" and learned a great deal of my Jacksonville roots. Without it and Florence, I would be years behind on my research. We indeed know how instrumental she was and we will definitely miss her. 3. Hello Again Mary, I can't believe I accidentally erased your first e-mail with dates--I was comparing to what I have in my dad's "little black book". Did you by chance keep a copy? I NEVER erase the things I want to keep, but you know how those things go! If you did keep it, please resend. We aren't sure if the tombstone dates are correct as we believe it is the second stone and there are differing references about what his birth date actually was. I have always found it interesting that Fannie's maiden name is on her stone--I wonder if that was the norm for 1890. You are right, it is a pretty cemetery--I vaguely remember when it was all moved or raised because of a damn?--I think--being put in. I wish I could find out how to get at the records for the cemetery. Another good question, you are right, who will mow it when the gentleman is no longer able to. Bless him and how terrific that he is still able to do that stuff at 85. I wonder if he knows anything about the records for the cemetery. Again, a great big thanks for your kindness. If there is anything I can do for you, please let me know. Warmest Regards (and I mean warm-ha!), Marsha

    2. Dear Marsha, I'm so happy that I helped in a small way. I only live about 1 1/2 mi. from the cemetery but I had never gone over there and looked at headstones. My husband went with me and we enjoyed looking at all the names. It is beautiful and well kept. Our old neighbor always mows it and he is Don Linton and is about 85. We are wondering who is going to take care of it when he is gone........ If you need me to do anything else for you, let me know. I have an idea.......since you know the death date, why don't you order microfilm of the Christian Co Newspapers from LDS Library. Is this possible? I have two sisters & my mother who live in Phoenix. They all once lived in ILL. Happy hunting! Mary Alice Tuxhorn

    3. Dear Mary, I can't thank you enough for your kindness in going to the cemetery! Many thanks. I went there every year as a child -- way before I was bitten by the genealogy bug. I grew up in Litchfield Illinois, and I now live in Arizona. Lewis A. Baney and Fannie E. Sherrill were my gr. grandparents, and Harry and Mary Lucy (England) were my grandparents. Harry died long before I was born. Of the 4 grandparents, I only knew my grandmother, Mary Lucy. Unfortunately I was 9 when she died--too young to ask questions about my family. I was more interested in her big sugar cookies that she somehow made in a huge old wood cook stove! Anyway, I can't find out anything about my great grandparents--Fannie and Lewis--how they died, where they were, etc. Not one single thing. Sigh....I think the name was spelled and/or misspelled many ways over the years. It seems like there would have to be something--probate?--one child (my great Uncle Walter S. Baney) was only 5 when his Dad died and 10 or 11 when his mother died. Don't know where to look. I tried Christian County, but they don't seem too obliged to help. Warmest Regards and Many Thanks! 3. Hello All, Looking for any information on Lewis/Louis BANEY who married Fannie E. SHERRILL (daughter of Baylor and Judith Sherrill) on 4-28-1869 in Sangamon County, Illinois. Lewis and Fannie are buried in Bethany Cemetery, Christian Co., Illinois. Their 3 children were: Harry (b. 1870), Lulu/a? (b. 1872), and Walter S (b. 1879). Lewis' Aunt and Uncle were Henry Herman BÖHNE (died 1847 in Cass County, Il.) and Selina BEARD BÖHNE CRAWFORD. Selina's son, Alfred Herman BöHNE, fought in the Civil War. 3. Lorma, 1850 is too early to have any record of their deaths, and I assume you have checked the cemetery listings in the area they lived. I would suggest checking the county probate and guardianship records. If they owned anything at all there would have been a probate file and perhaps an entry in the guardianship records regarding the guardian for their children. Either type of record would reference their approximate date of death at least, and would provide additional details about this family and clues for your research. I believe Morgan Co. records of this sort are on LDS film.
