Dear Marie, Your best bet for obits is the IL State Historical Library, which is moving right now and not available until Sept. Another good bet for obits is to contact the public library in the community where the person died, find out where the newspaper archives are for that county's newspapers, and ask the library with the newspapers to look up the obit for you. Usually little or no fee for this. As for 1863 death records in Morgan Co., you are out of luck there. Death records, at least not more than a handful, were not kept at that early date in most IL counties. Try civil war pension papers from NARA for death date and other info, cemetery marker, and local paper for a death notice. Pension papers would be the best source if available, as they would probably give lots of family information. Good luck, Juli Claussen Kehl, Edwards, Henry, McCurley, Ro(d)gers in Morgan Co., IL ----- Original Message ----- From: "Marie Butcher" <mbutcher14901@yahoo.com> To: <ILMORGAN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, August 29, 2004 10:35 AM Subject: [ILMORGAN] Death Records > Hello Everyone, > I have been searching for WATSONS in the Morgan, Cass, Brown, Peoria and Madison areas for some time now. Not sure but am almost certain it isn't in Macoupin, Morgan or Greene Cos. IL. Morgan is Township 13-16North and Range 7-13 West Greene is T9-12N and R 10-13W Macoupin is T7-12N and R 6-9W From your description it might be in Montgomery County, bordering Macoupin on the East. I could very well be wrong, so if anyone wants to correct me, feel free :-) At 08:00 PM 8/26/2004 -0700, you wrote: >Reuben Ross got this piece of land. Reuben Ross got this piece of land. Where is it? The East half of the North East quarter and the East half of the South East quarter of Section 2 in the Township 8 North of Range 5 West of the third Principal meridian in the District of Lands subject to sale at Edwardsville Illinois containing one hundred and fifty nine and seventeen hundredths of an acre. Reuben Ross was born in 1755 in Dorchester MD. He is a Revolutionary War Patriot and is buried at Robert Cemetery in Waverly. I was able to get DAR Membership for his service. I am now back filling in some details. I would like to have his obituary, land records, and Will. If anyone can help with this I will be so grateful. I will be in Carlinville, Ill next month and will spend a day in Waverly at his grave. I can get the documents I want if someone has a suggestion where to look. Thanks Marita in Calif. His 4 great granddaughter.
My ancestor, John Abbott landed at New Orleans around 1835 with his wife and children. They came up river to the Lynnville area where they bought land and settled down. The Episcopal Church records in Jacksonville incicate the baptism in November of 1843 of two children, Henry and Louisa Jane(Jane Louisa??) at Mound Meadow. I assume that Mound Meadow is in the Lynnville area and wonder if there might be a cemetery located in that area. Family records have a Henry born 1844 and Jane Frances born 1846. I wonder if the 1843 children were twins who died young. The family moved to the Naples area in the mid 1840's.Thanks, Donna
Where is the Crackers Bend cemetery. I have been told Art Laughary and his wife are buried there. Mari
Check with your local library.....I was accessing the census information just yesterday on Heritage Quest, and I do that through my librarie's website....so it was working for me. By any chance have you changed firewalls? When I changed firewalls, I had to disable it to log on, and then enable it again once I was "in." Good luck! I was not able to access the Airsman-Hires link for condolences. Therefore I would be grateful if you could pass on my sincere sympathy to the family of Florence at this time. She was indeed an icon of the Genealogical Community and I was sad when her "Star Journal" ceased. She was a wonderful help to me in finding info on my ancestors, Alex Smith and Isabel Munro of Jacksonville. I know she will be missed by everybody . Marion Baker, St. John's, Newfoundland
