    3. I just returned from a visit to Morgan Co where I researched Reuben Ross Patriot and visited his grave site and Macoupin Co. where I researched his son Robert Ross. I visited the area where he owned his farm, Ross Richie Cemetery which was surrounded by very tall corn, but neatly groomed. I got his and his wife's tombstone as well as others. I also visited the land that Seth T. Hodges donated to the city of Carlinville in 1829, and copied titles, commissioner entries, Chancery Records and tax assessment and collector records . i came home with about 4 inches of paper that I am still trying to sort and enter. Thanks to wonderful friends I met while there: Linda Kmiecik , Georgia, Phyllis, Gloria Fraizer, who volunteer at the archives and are indexing names in the many book, page by page. They have accomplished a tremendous task, a gift to researchers. They preserved 3 floors of records that are wonderful!!! They took me to the site of Hickory Point School House where my great grandfather Seth Hodges who was born in 1855 went to school. It is a field, and had tall corn which is no doubt harvested by now. Seth wrote his boyhood days and told many interesting details of his live in South Otter, moves to South Palmyra and finally a move to Nebraska. I was able to follow and visit. I visited Concord Primitive Baptist Church, the oldest church in the County. They graciously shared the material in a 250 page book and on the first page Robert Ross' name is listed. Linda and Thelma Dean Stewart, took me around to several Cemeteries, and they also went to Hodges Cemetery and took pictures for me. I attended the Macoupin County Historical Society Fall Festival. It is a BIG event. There were wonderful things to purchase at 200+ vendors. Dorothy and Mary of the Historical Society, made copies of a picture of Hickory Point School, and of the first Court house of logs, built by Seth T. Hodges. They opened up the collection for me to look through. I was able to look at an early book which gives the reports of the establishing of various schools. Again Robert Ross is listed as a board member. Judy Decker City Clerk gave me some helpful suggestions and the staff at the Carlinville Library was very helpful and patient with me as I went through their material. I spent my evenings there going through my material, rather than at the hotel. Driving on Richie Road west from Rt. 4 to Rt. 111 is really easy now, but I wonder what it was like back then with ruts, mud and horse drawn wagons. I try to imagine getting to Seth T. Hodges in section 28, since there isn't a road there today. Circle Tree Road takes a curve North and you can't get there except going through private property. And then trying to travel from Seth's property to Palmyra, Etter Cemetery, the Robert Ross Farm near Zelmer Airport Rd and Deep Rock Station Rd. Today it isn't really a problem, ( except getting to Seth's property), but back then it must have been a real hard trip. William Hodges and Elizabeth Ross, Robert's daughter buried a son in 1858. They lived in So. Otter and buried the baby at the Ross Richie Cemetery. I wonder how long it took them to travel that distance. I have great admiration for these ancestors, because of the challenging life they had, and their determination and faithfulness to keep going. The heritage I have received from them is so appreciated. My parents were pioneers in their own right, which I believe came from their own parent’s, indomitable spirit. In 1946 they took four small children to West Africa, which was known as the white man's grave yard. We had pioneer adventures too, even though we had some improved conveniences. We had a truck, but we still had an out house and had to boil and filter water, were inoculated against some serious dieases, but had to take care of other infections. All four of us are still liviing, which wasn’t the case of many of my ancestor’s babies. I still have some unanswered questions, and maybe some day I can return. Thanks to everyone for your helpfulness, kindness, and generosity. My trip was WONDERFUL. Marita

Surnames: Moore, Wooldridge Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Ih.2ADE/1207 Message Board Post: I'm searching for information regarding James M. Moore and Martha Wooldridge, my wife's GG-grandparents. Known so far: 1. James was born on 18 Sep 1813 in Butler Co KY. His parents are unknown. 2. James married to Martha M.M. Wooldridge on 23 Feb 1841 possibly in Butler Co. According to later census records, Martha was born in VA--her parents are unknown. 3. James and Martha bore at least two children while they lived in Butler Co: Sarah Elizabeth (b. 20 Mar 1845) and Frances E. (ca. 1847). 4. James, Martha and family migrated sometime before the 1850 US census to Morgan Co IL, where they lived and bore additional children: Samuel Thomas (b. 1850), Margaret E. (ca. 1854), Martha E. (ca. 1859) and James Granville (b. 2 Feb 1862). James and Martha are listed in the 1850 US census for Morgan Co, shown as living at Dwelling #2294 as family #2344. Sarah, Frances and Samuel are listed in this census. Also living in their household then was a 18 year old Matilda Wooldridge (possible younger sister of Martha's) and a 9 year old John Scott (relationship unknown). James is listed as being a blacksmith in that census, and it is believed that the Moores lived in the vicinty of the town of Waverly in east Morgan Co. No 1860 census record for James and Martha has been found so far, nor have I found a record of any military service by James in the Civil War. 5. They later moved to Dade Co MO where their last known child was born (William E., ca. 1866). They are listed in the 1870 census of Marion Township: James, Martha, Samuel, Margaret, Martha, James Granville and William, plus a 19 year old Cynthia Neill (relationship unknown). They are also listed in the 1880 census of Cedar Township, Dwelling #131. James, Martha, James Granville and William are shown. In this census record, James' parents are listed as both being born in VA. 6. They finally settled in Barry Co MO. James died on 4 Sep 1897 in Barry Co; Martha died on 7 Dec 1910 in neighboring Stone Co MO) and they are buried (Mineral Spring Cemetery, Barry Co MO), along with their sons Samuel and James Granville and daughter Sarah Elizabeth Moore Stumpff and their respective families. Information about James and Martha and leads about their possible Moore and Wooldridge family kin in IL, KY and VA would be appreciated. Regards, John Reid P.O. Box 7164 Libertyville IL 60048

I don't know what the current fee is. When you write, briefly explain your relationship to Miss Ogle. Depending on who gave the information, the death certificate might include the names of the parents and place of burial. You probably already have that information but it is nice to have it on some official document - useful for proving relationships when you can't find "proof" for your own ancestor. You could also contact the local genealogical society to see if someone would do a newspaper lookup for you. I can send you that information if you contact me directly at rchrdcck@aol.com. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Ih.2ADE/1204.2 Message Board Post: It might help to know the source of information about Miss Ogle's death. There is a page about the Norbury Sanatorium in The People of Jacksonville A Pictoral History copyrighted 1991. According to this book, Dr. Frank P. Norbury began his medical practice in Jacksonville in 1888. The Sanatorium was established in 1913 and lasted till 1967. Jacksonville also had Oaklawn Sanatorium which was founded in the 1870s. I wonder if Miss Ogle might have died there. Did you get a copy of her death certificate from the Morgan Co. courthouse? You might check the Jacksonville newspaper for information about her death, especially if her body was taken elsewhere for burial. Be sure to check all of the papers for that time period. (At one time we had two papers (morning and afternoon), so checking both is important. Usually the information was about the same but you never know.) The Jacksonville Public Library has copies of the papers on microfilm. If your information came from ! the paper in her hometown, you might want to compare that to the J'ville paper. Hope this helps. "In 1901 Dr. Norbury and others founded Maplewood Sanatorium, in Jacksonville, for the treatment of nervous and mental diseases. The institution is under the direction of a corporation of which the Doctor is President, and he acts as Medical Superintendent of the sanatorium. It has a capacity of twenty patients, and besides the Superintendent, has a staff of eleven nurses and a House Physician. At this institution the principles of the rest cure, advocated by Weir Mitchell, are followed, with some modification." So Norbury and Maplewood appear to be the same, and while my grandfather apparently died there in 1931, his sister Deborah could not have died there as it did not exist in 1892. I wonder if she died at the state facility which existed at that time. I have not found her in any death index however.
