    1. J. J. Routt - Civil War record
    2. Tim Bryant
    3. Hello, listers-- I am new to the list, and I am making this query on behalf of a Routt family relative. J. J. (James J.) Routt served in an Illinois company during the Civil War, and I believe he may have died in Morgan County in about 1870. I do not know the township in which he resided, nor the specific company in which he served. I have found an entry for I.I. Routt in the state Civil War veterans database, and because J.J.'s "dogtags" have a strip of metal that says "J.J. Routt" engraved almost in italics, I think "J.J." could have been mistranscribed as "I.I." The record is as follows: ROUTT, I I REC A 28 IL US INF HOWARD Does anyone on the list have a copy of the History of Morgan County (I'm assuming one exists), and if so, could someone look up I.I. (or J.J.) Routt in the list of Civil War vets (if a separate list exists) and send any details? Many thanks-- Tim Bryant

    3. Dear Bill, As you search for the elusive Mulford Moore, be sure to check for similar names. I have found many errors in marriage records of that time as to spelling of names. My ancestor who married about the same time in Greene Co., for instance was Clarinda Ellen Hicks, yet her marr record clearly states her name was Clarrisa E. Hicks--an error on the part of the clerk. So look for Milford, Wilford, anything similar as you search for him. Good luck! Juli Claussen ----- Original Message ----- From: Bill Donath To: ILMORGAN-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, November 08, 2004 10:10 PM Subject: [ILMORGAN] FLOWERS, MILLER, MOORE, SCHMUTZ_SMOOTS, WOOD(S) I am looking for my gggrandfather MOORE or FLOWERS. My ggrandmother, Anna Louise (MOORE)(FLOWERS)(SCHMUTZ)(BOY) NAUGLE, was born 29 December 1872, in Jacksonville (Morgan) Illinois. Anna's mother was Sarah A. MILLER b 1852 in Michigan. Sarah's mother's name was Elizabeth WOOD(S). According the Census records in 1860 Sarah MILLER (8) was living in the household of Isiah and Elizabeth WOOD in Waverly Precinct (Morgan) IL. A marriage record in Macoupin Co. IL has Sarah MILLER marrying Mulford MOORE 21 May 1868. The information from the 1870 Census has Sarah MOORE and son John (1) living in the household of Hozea and Elizabeth WEATHERBEE. Mrs. Sarah MOORE married John FLOWERS, 18 March 1876. At this time Anna started living with Nicolas and Catherine SCHMUTZ(SMOOTS). The SCHMUTZ family lived in Morgan, Tazwell, and then Logan County. Anna married my ggrandfather, Charles BOY 11 Nov 1886 in Logan County. He died 30 May 1895. Anna then married Jacob NAUGLE 08 May 1896 in Logan County. By 1880, John and Sarah had started another family. Anna was with the SCHMUTZ family in Pekin (Tazwell) Illinois. With Anna's birthdate of 1872, it was unlikely that John FLOWERS is my ggrandfather. The only reference I have of Sarah's possilbe husband MOORE is the marriage record from neighboring Macoupin County. Finding my gggrandfather is a brick wall with which I sure do need some help. Does anybody from the families listed above have any family stories that relate to this couple? ==== ILMORGAN Mailing List ==== Contribute your Morgan County ancestors Obit; Probate/Will; Deeds; Bible Records; Photo's; Pensions; any Misc. items to the Morgan Web page or the GenConnect Boards:

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Ih.2ADE/1212 Message Board Post: I am seraching for one of my gggrandfathers MOORE or FLOWERS. Sarah's mother was Elizabeth WOOD and her father was Sylvester MILLER. According to the Census records for 1860 Sarah was living in the household of Isiah and Elizabeth WOOD in Waverly Precinct (Morgan) Illinois. A marriage record in neighboring Macoupin Co. Illinois has Sarah A. MILLER marrying Mulford MOORE, 21 May 1868. Information from the 1870 Census shows Sarah A. MOORE and John MOORE age 1, living in the household of Hozea and Elizabeth WEATHERBEE in Waverly Precinct (Morgan) Illinos. On 18 March 1876 Mrs. Sarah A. MOORE married John FLOWERS in Jacksonville (Morgan) Illinois. John and Sarah had the following known children: Gertrude, b 1878; Minnie b 1880; Emma, b 1884; Charles, b 1885; Jessie, b 1887; and Elizabeth, b 1890. On the 1900 Census, Sarah reported that she had 13 children. The 6 FLOWERS children and the two, John and Anna, born prior to the marriage to FLOWERS, leaves 5 children unidentified. With a birthdate in 1872 it is not likely that John FLOWERS is the father of my ggrandmother Anna. At the time of the marriage of Sarah to John FLOWERS my ggrandmother Anna was taken in by Nicholas and Chatherine SCHMUTZ(SMOOTS). The SCHMUTZ's raised Anna. They moved from Morgan Co. to Tazwell Co. and then to Logan County Illinois. Anna was reunited with her natural mother and her FLOWERS siblings later in life, after her adoptive mother died. If anyone in the families listed above can give me a clue of where to look next for information about Anna's father, I will be most grateful.

There is documentation that they had a daughter named Ethia Linda, who married David Manchester. Ancil Cox also came to Morgan County in 1820 from Madison County, and also was born in Henry County, Va. I'm guessing that these two men were brothers.
