Hi Patty, I checked my book for you. Of these names, I only found GRAFF and GRAEF. On p. 205, it states that Julia Sophia Maier, b. 9/2/1872, married Anton Graef on 11/15/1899, who owned the S & G Cigar factory at East Side Square (Jacksonville, I think). Julia died in 1954. On p. 332, it states that Frank Tendick was the dputy sheriff in the early 1900's under Charles Graff and Grant Graff. Sorry that I didn't find more. If you want me to scan and send either of these pages, let me know. I am looking for information on George W. Burnett m. Emma Jennings. Both George and Emma are buried in Franklin Cemetery, Franklin, Morgan County, IL. George died in 1909, in St. Louis, MO, at the house of his daughter and son-in-law, Anna and Joe Kelly. Emma died in 1879 but I do not know where she died. George and Emma lived in MO, for a certain period of time, because Anna, their daughter, was b. in Schell City, Vernon County, MO, on Mar. 21, 1875. They also had two sons: Charles Isham and Otis Willett Burnett. Emma had a sister named Cordelia Jennings m. Robert Craighead. I have more information and pictures to share. Thanks, Patricia
Hi list, My grandfather's social security application of Oct 1938 shows his present employer as "Pan-American Shows c/o Billboard, Cincinnati, O." and his personal address as Murrayville. Does anyone have information on this company? Researching: AXWORTHY, MULLENS, PENNONER, STILL, RIGGS (all at one time in the Morgan, Greene, Madison Co. areas)
My roll call names are; MILLION, REES, GENTRY,WHITLOCK, ANDRESON, RUSSELL, DeSilva, DeShara, HAYES, PAGE, PARK(S), NORTHCUTT. Thanks for your time. Don Hayes-Moline,IL.
Carol - I am in Boston through Jan 21 (a week from Friday). My BROWN-WILSON papers are at home, including census records, city in England, children of CHARLES BROWN (son of THOMAS and ELIZABETH (WILSON) BROWN), etc. So...if you don't hear from me before the 21st, please do not think I am ignoring you. Since I do not have my gg grandfather proven yet, I am reluctant to insert the data in my FTM files. I hope you understand. Thanks for your response...can't wait to check. Tom Wilson Boca Raton, FL
Well, Tom, I suppose it could be possible, although I do have a birth date for my Martha A. BROWN as July 21, 1834 so she could have been born in England or the USA. I also don't know who her parents were. The helpful thing is that Martha named her children Martha, Sarah Elizabeth, William, John, Frances and Richard. It looks as if that is about all we have to go on right now. Do you know WHERE in England they came from? I have done a lot of research in the UK andmaybe we can get more of a clue where to look over there. Keep in touch, Carol Dugger
Tom, This doesn't sound close, unfortunately. Thanks for trying. I'll look forward to checking out your full "ad". Still looking for more information on my CAULKINS family and affiliated families. Here is some of what I have and some of my questions--- Isaac CAULKINS came from NY and then Hardin Co., KY and bought land as early as 1830 and had a land grants in 1831 and 1836 in Morgan Co. He married (second wife) Susannah STEPHENS/STEPHENSON in Morgan Co. in 1835 and was in Winchester, Scott Co. in 1840 census. What happened to Susannah? Was this a second or third marriage for Susannah? Where was she from? Isaac moved to Marion Co., IA to live with daughter Elizabeth JOHNSON and was a widower in the 1850 census. Isaac's daughter Mary/Polly CAULKINS married John C. RODGERS in Morgan Co. in 1839 and are shown in the 1840 census. What happened to them after that? I know there were many RODGERS in the area. Can anyone tell me where I might look for John and Mary/Polly? Isaac's son William H. CAULKINS lived and farmed in Morgan and Scott Co. for many years 1839-1860s. He married Marietta OLDS in Morgan Co. in 1839. I know nothing about the OLDS family except that she was born in KY or TN---ANY leads would be helpful. William and Marietta aren't found anywhere in the 1870 census but are in the Middle Fork Twp., Ringgold Co., IA in 1880. Where were they in 1870? Isaac's son Nehemiah CAULKINS brought his new wife Rebecca (APPLEGATE) from Clark Co., IN to Morgan Co., where he bought land in 1829, had a school land grant in 1831 and sold land in 1832. It is believed he died between 1832-1838--any proof? Morgan County courthouse has a probate listed for him but can't find the papers. John R. JORDAN married the widow Rebecca CAULKINS---they both lived many years and died in Morgan Co. Nehemiah's son Samuel CAULKINS was born in Morgan Co. in 1830 and died there in 1851. Is there possibly a newspaper article about his death? Is it possible to get a picture of his gravestone in Jacksonville East? He did leave a will at his young age. Nehemiah's other son Silas CAULKINS sold land in Morgan Co. 1848 and in Scott Co. in 1849. He received discharge papers from the Mexican War in Morgan Co. I have quite a lot of information on him---too bad he never married or had children! He led a very interesting life but died a pauper in Los Angeles Old Soldiers' Home in CA in 1903. Isaac's youngest daughter Elizabeth Jane or "Eliza" married William C. JOHNSON in Scott Co. in 1847. The family is in Marion Co., IA in the 1850 census but don't know where they went after that. Any info on the JOHNSON family that would help? I've learned a lot in the last five years but always wanting to learn more. Linda
I don't know if this will help you or not but my aunt, Florence Dugger married Ross Hart in the early 1900's--sorry don't have a date on that. Florence was b. in 1882 in Scottville, Macoupin CO but she and Ross lived in Waverly for most of their married life. I have a picture of them together when Aunt Florence was about 20. I have no other data on Ross Hart but do know of another Hart researcher. Feel free to contact me if I can be of any more help or if you want his e-mail address. Carol Valantine Dugger Napa, CA
I am still hanging around trying to get more data on the above families from Morgan and Macoupin counties. The Duggers are pretty much obvious--we're all related! The problems come with trying to find out about my ggparents and their children who seem to be difficult to locate. William Proctor JACKSON was b. Nov 27,1828 d. Nov22,1873 in Nortonville. He is buried in Youngblood Cemetery. He married Martha A. Brown b. Juy21,1834 d. May 14,1984 also buried in Youngblood Cemetery. Family legend says they were English, but can I find anything about that?--NOT! No clue about theirbirthplaces or their respective parents. Wm. and Martha had 6 children: Margaret, my gm Sarah Elizabeth b. 1858,Frances"Frankie"b.1859,William b.abt 1860, John Henry b. 1860 (wonder if these were twins?), and Richard b. abt. 1862. I see there are a lot of Brown descendants on the Morgan Co list but so far nobody knows anything about my branch. As for Wm. Proctor Jackson, nothing about him. Can anyone help me find them? !!! Carol Valantine Dugger Napa, CA
I have a copy if I can help you by looking something up - let me know. Hello all...My Morgan Co Ancesters are Alexander HOPPER,Anna BRITENSTEIN,Eliza GREEN,Martin and Amanda BEACH,Richard FILKIN...This is such a neat page..thank you all...Barbara O'Hara
Thanks for the info Cheri! So far my earliest date in IL. is a birth of Mary Elizabeth RIGGS (b 3/14/1875) in Godfrey, Madison Co. Her father, Albert RIGGS was born in New York (1852), mother Luvenia L. STILL (b. ??). I've seen the connection between RIGGS and GREEN(E) in the tombstones. Is there a possibility you show either Mary Elizabeth or Albert in your information. Maybe a sibling, cousin of your Cynthia? Or is there any tract back to New York? Thanks. Irvina
Morgan Co. Cemetery lists make reference to "Atlas Map of Morgan Co., IL 1872." How might one access the info contained in this Atlas? Becky
Researching the branch of the Hart family who settled in Waverly during the Civl War after living in Cass Co in the 8 or so years prior. This family came from the area of VT/NH near Windsor Co. The patriarch was Leonard Hart, who died in Waverly in 1884. His wife, Mary Calef Hart, died there in 1879. They had Lewis S, Sarah E, Rev John C, and Albert H Hart. Tom & Debbie Hart Mead
I working on the surnames of ALLEN, BRISSEY, COONS, DRAKES, HENRY from Scott and Morgan Counties, Illinois to Harrison Co. Mo. Please contact me if you are also working on these names. Glenda
I am searching for harrison fanning b. 1831 m. Millie Stigall and then Hannah/Elizabeth Sayre? Moved to Tarrant Co. TX with brother John A. Fannin(g) who married Rhoda Raiborne and helped to Raise her nephews and nieces in their 50's. All buried at Denton/Tarrant Co, TX county lines. Have some clues that their father may be Henry born in IL or VA. They are probably all of the VA-(TN)-IL-TX lines that lived mostly in Morgan Co., but not part of the main groups I've seen on line. They also wed in Fayette Co. and father may be from further north of Fayette and yet east from Morgan. There is a census record that could be him, and if so, there are brothers listed as well. Looking for anyone with clues to follow these families. Have Hanna's father and Rhoda's history a few generations if anyone is looking for it. ANY help on Fanning would be incredible. I am having a tough time with it and would love to even put heads together with someone of similar interests. Hi, My oldest Wilson is JAMES WILSON, b. in PA and marr to Bridget Custer. they had 5 or 6 sons one of which was my ggg-grandfather, Jacob Wilson. Known siblings are a John and a Samuel. The rest to be found!! So, I don't think our Wilson's match up. Wish it weren't so! Good Luck. Kathy
Cathie - If this is close, I can pull the exact dates separately later...I plan to put a full "ad" out to the list in a few weeks. The BROWN family I am looking for immigrated from England...THOMAS BROWN and his wife ELIZABETH WILSON. They did have children including one that I can recall (without my notes) names CHARLES (b. about 1851). Census data from this period has ELIZABETH's brother, RICHARD WILSON living with the family...and in 1880, a nephew, THOMAS EDWARD WILSON...the person I was named after who happens to be my great grandfather (b. Aug 4, 1865 in Morgan County, Illinois)...my major brick wall is his parents ...his father is the brother of ELIZABETH and RICHARD. Close? Tom Wilson
I am looking for members of the Charles Hart Wagon Train that left Morgan and Macoupin Counties about 1846/47. George Washington Fanning, William Fanning and Nathan Fanning sons of John Fanning and Elizabeth Stamp were members of this train. I should like to find who else moved to Texas at this time. Thank you. Cathy Fanning Stoppel
