Looking for information regarding Benjamin ROBERTSON, born ca 1812 in Clark co. IN. He was the son of Robert ROBERTSON and Susanna JONES. Robert ROBERTSON and his family moved from Clark co. IN ca 1834 and settled near Sinclair, Morgan co. IL. Benjamin may have moved on to Adams co. Benjamin was married to Eliza E. OWEN and had a son, William Davis ROBERTSON, who was born 26 Nov. 1833 in Clark co. IN. He may have also had a daughter named Permelia. Robert and Susanna's children were: Amos, Elizabeth, Sarah, John, William, James, Nathan, Benjamin, Mary/Polly, and Jonathan. Not sure how many of these children also came to Illinois. Any type of information regarding these two families will be most appreciated. Thank you.
Fellow researchers-- With the newest addition to the index of estate records in Morgan County, I see my ancestor Nehemiah CA(U)LKINS is listed, as I knew he would be. Case #144. Unfortunately when I was at the courthouse, they couldn't find the records. I'm asking if anyone happens to come across them because they were misfiled or stuck with something else, PLEASE let me know. It's been "eating at me" for a couple years, that he's listed in the index as having records but I can't read them! I'm hoping they eventually turn up. I have a copy of his son's will, Samuel CAULKINS, but I would be so grateful to see Nehemiah's probate records. If anyone has any ideas on what I can do to locate these papers, I'd be glad to hear them. Thanks for all the work everyone has done on the web site. You do a terrific job! My hat is off to you because I don't know how you do it! Linda

I was recently at a scrapbooking class that discussed archiving photos and other items. When discussing newspaper clippings, they recommended making copies or if you want to maintain the color, a color copy. They said that the ink on the newspaper is what makes the paper disintegrate. They also recommend if putting a newspaper clipping with pictures or other documents to make sure that it doesn't touch anything else. Hope this helps. Susan -----Original Message----- From: Carol E. I have an ancestor with the surname GOUVIA or GOVEIA who I believe came from that community. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who can tell me more about the Portugese colony that came to Morgan CO probably in the 1830's or 1840's. Please contact direct at . Thanks, Nora
If you can piece it together, by all means make a copy of it. Even if you can't save the original you can at least get a copy. I have had several old newspaper clippings that are falling apart and I have gone ahead and put them on a laminate then made a copy on archival grade paper. If the newspaper is falling apart anyway, I don't think using a laminate is going to hurt anything, just to get a copy. Karen Mitchell 2000 has been declared "The Year of "Respect". Pass it on. I found an Ebenezer Rice in the 1850 census in Scott County, Illinois. He is age 66, his wife Catherine is age 60. Also listed are Nancy A., age 21 and Joseph T. age 15. Ebenezer was born in Massachusetts, Catherine in North Carolina. I don't know if this is your Ebenezer or not. I am descended from the Rices of Rhode Island.
