Hi, it's me again! I forgot to ask you how "our" James Wilson is related to the James Wilson who was the signer of the Declaration of Indep??? Have you made that connection yet??????? You mentioned some relationship of "Pegg Wilson" to the signer James. Could you clarify that for me????? Thanks! Kathy
Hello "Cousin"!!! How great to find someone else who is searching for James Wilson! My line comes from his marriage to Brigit Custer and thru their son Jacob Wilson! Jacob married a Margaret J. I have Family Tree Maker v. 7.0 and can send a file that way or a GEDCOM if you wish. I see that you listed a Thomas Wilson as the father of James. Do you have more information on him??? Posted on: Morgan Co. IL Query Page Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Morgan?read=152 Surname: Wilson, Emory ------------------------- My great great grandfather was a James Wilson. I know that he lived in Morgan county,IL and died there about 1860. My James Wilson married Mary Emory but could he have remarried a woman named Bridget? The James Wilson I found in the 1850 census and land sale records is probally him. I know that most of his children lived around Arcadia. This is what I have:Descendants of James Wilson Generation No. 1 1. JAMES2 WILSON (THOMAS1) was born Abt. 1780 in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, and died Abt. 1860 in Illinois. He married MARY EMORY. He married ROSANNA HOUGH MOUL 31 May 1827 in Belmont County, Ohio. Notes for DANIEL PEGG WILSON: THE DANIEL PEGG WILSON FAMILY - "The Pioneers" Daniel Pegg Wilson, the son of James Wilson and Mary Emory, was born in May of 1804 on the Wilson traditional home located in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. Daniel Pegg may be related to James Wilson, one of the signers of The Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution. James Wilson later became an associate judge of the first Supreme Court of the United States. Daniel's middle name "Pegg" originated from his ancestor, Daniel Pegg I, who was a prominent early individual in the colony of Pennsylvania even before William Penn. ---------------------- Notes for ROSANNA HOUGH MOUL: According to the 31May 1827 Belmont County, Ohio marriage records, Rosanna, at the time of her marriage to Daniel Pegg Wilson, was under the guardianship of John Ethel. A John Ethell was born 15 March 1782 in Fauquier County, Virginia, his father was Anthony Ethell and mother was Sarah. William Ethell, John Ethell's brother died in Morgan county, Illinois. (Descendants of Anthony Ethell, by Leona Ethell Kastner). Rosanna may be buried in the MORRIS CHAPEL CEMETERY aka SMITH aka MT. VERNON. NW1/4, Section 16, T16N-R11W-3PM, Concord Township of Morgan County, Illinois.. The cemetery is located 1.2 miles east of Brown's Crossroads, which is also the site of Triopia High School. The high school is located about two miles north of Concord. From Triopia High School drive east on State Aid Road 19 (also known as Road 2150N) for 1.2 miles until you arrive at the intersection with Road 1325E. The cemetery is located in the trees and brush about 100 feet north of this intersection. If the crops and brush are so tall that tombstones can't be seen, evergreen trees in the cemetery serve as sentinels marking the area. The tombstone inscription reads: "WILSON, Susannah F. - Died 24 Feb 1850-- Age 36 Yr 9 Mo 29 Da--Wife of D. Wilson" It is probable that the name "Susannah" was misinterpreted on the old tombstone and should be "Rosannah" Wilson. The Morgan County, Illinois 1850 Mortality Schedule has a Rosanna Wilson who died February 1850 of cancer.

-----Original Message----- From: Edward Tocus [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, April 25, 2000 2:14 PM To: [email protected] Subject: {not a subscriber} Many Thanks May I use this forum to thank whoever has done the huge amount of work behind getting so much information online for Morgan CO? For years I had wondered how a woman of Portugese descent, one of my aunts, happened to turn up mid-19th century in central Illinois---then I happened upon the USGenWeb site's link re the religious exiles from Madeira. What a fascinating story! I immediately shared it with my 85 year-old cousin whose mother was that Portugese aunt and who had lived his entire life without once hearing the story of how the exiles came to Illinois in 1849. I've now printed out reams of information and mailed it to him, also he's now in touch with kinsmen who bear his mother's surname, so you can imagine how pleased and thrilled he is. You who do all the tedious labor of searching, organizing, typing, and entering such infomation, please know the good you do. Nora

Carol - I will "keep an eye out". This THOMAS CARLETON BROWN emigrated from Yorkshire, England (almost 99% convinced he was from the parish of Pickering in Yorkshire) in 1847. THOMAS and ELIZABETH (WILSON) BROWN had one son, CHARLES (b. about 1850) who married ANNA LAMBERT...all in Morgan County. If you see those surnames in your search, we may be close! Hope you are having a great weekend! - Tom Wilson
Tom, have you checked a copy of the Yorkshire census returns for Pickering? TheEnglish censuses were really full of useful information. There is a Yorkshire e-mail through GENUKI that is similar to Morgan Co's. and people there are very willing to do look-ups. though i have found the Yorksgen list a little more "Chatty" than other county lists in England, they are very nice. I don't hold out much hope for finding my BROWNs since I just have the two female names, but we'll see. Maybe this is the connection We're waiting for? Happy Easter Carol
Tom, Have you had an opportunity to look at the bios in the book, MORGAN COUNTY FAMILY HISTORY, 1976, on the Wilson's? There are a couple of other Thomas Wilson's mentioned, and info about early Wilson's in Morgan Co. I wonder if these would hold any clues for you. If you haven't seen them, contact me directly and I'll try to assist you. Juli Claussen
Tom, maybe in your search for your WILSON/BROWN families you'll turnup something useful about my BROWN family as well :). All I know is that my Martha A. BROWN married Wm. Proctor JACKSON in Morgan Co. 1854. They had a lot of children! William JACKSON came from England but I don't know when or from where. Martha's mother's name was Catharine and Catharine lived with Martha and William in Macoupin Co. in 1860. Perhaps when I get to Morgan CO in June I can find something usefulin the graveyard where WM. and Martha are buried. Good luck, Carol Dugger

This has been a "brick wall", totally restricting the growth of my family tree files for the five years I have been hooked as a family historian...so much, in fact, that I am beginning to doubt my own existence!...in spite of having over 40,000 names of kin in my files. I am going to "turn up the heat" on this one (i.e., no more one time a year ads, targeting more than one subscription list, etc.) Here goes.... THOMAS EDWARD WILSON (I am named after him... my great grandfather) was born in Morgan County, Illinois on August 4, 1865. He died on September 25, 1946 in Eva, Texas County, Oklahoma...buried in Baker Cemetery, Texas County, Oklahoma. THOMAS married LOUISA FATZER (b. April 5, 1873 in Talylorville, Christian County, Illinois / d. Nov 9, 1942 in Larned, Kansas) on April 12, 1888 in Edwards County, Kansas. THOMAS appears in the 1880 Morgan County census living with his aunt and uncle, THOMAS and ELIZABETH (WILSON) BROWN in the same household with another uncle, RICHARD WILSON...living in Franklin Township. THOMAS' father, (my brick wall)(who MAY be named JOHN) was born between 1820 and 1835 in Yorkshire, England...emigrated with his brother and sister to Morgan County about 1847. The 1880 census says that THOMAS' mother was born in Illinois...no county given. THOMAS was the youngest of 6 children. His siblings are named JOHN, HARDEN, SALLEY, SUSAN and CHARLES (the latter is the oldest, born in 1855). THOMAS parents both died prior to 1870 and the children were farmed out...THOMAS going to his father's sister ELIZABETH. We think CHARLES went to Oklahoma. THOMAS ran away from home shortly after the 1880 census. These are the facts...I have a lot of "rumors"...but none are founded in fact. I realize WILSON and BROWN are just about as common of a surname as one could have My pressing question is...who are THOMAS' parents? The father, brother to ELIZABETH and RICHARD was one of several "yorkies" emigrating to Morgan County in the mid-1800s, probably did not live long enough to know THOMAS...he died before his wife. It is logical that he married his Illinois-born wife sometime between 1848 and 1854...probably in or near Morgan County...since his brother and sister lived there...and show repeatedly in the Illinois census beginning in 1850. Even one additional clue would be a big help. This is a tough one, so any help would be appreciated by dozens of WILSON descendants. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide! Tom Wilson Boca Raton, FL
