Posted on: Morgan Co. IL Query Page Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Morgan?read=157 Surname: Suter, Souder ------------------------- I'm looking for genealogical information about an Albert Suter (or possibly Souder). All I know about him is that he lived in Morgan County, Illinois in 1932. He might have been around twenty years old at the time, give or take a few years, but I don't have any definite information about his age so this could be wrong. Thanks in advance for any help.
Hi Carol, Murrayville is Morgan County, but close to the Scott Co. line, suppose the cemetery is still in Morgan. Scottville West would be Macoupin, wouldn't it? Doesn't matter about the dates/newspaper, although it would be nice to have them. Go on and send them to me. Always glad to get more material. Thanks for the compliments, appreciate it. Mary Ann, I have 2 obits I've collected, but don't know exactly which county they are from. One is the obit for Dewey Mutch who was buried in Murrayville Cemetery. Is that perhaps Scott Co? Also there is no name of the newspaper it was from, plus no date!! The other is for my grandmother, Sarah Elizabeth Jackson Dugger who died in Waverly and was buried in Scottville West Cemetery. Would you like to have these for the obit section? You guys have been doing a fantastic job with the ILMAGA site. Thank you for the hard work and your endless time! Sincerely, Carol Dugger

I don't have the column headings, so couldn't put them on, but I would assume they are as they are in another County......(but won't post until I know for sure)..... lst column under/10, 2nd 10/20, 3rd 20/30 4th 30/40, 5th 40/50 6th 50/60, 7th 60/70, 8th 70/80, 9th 80/90 10th 90/100 Does that work? Need to get those from Marty and I will put them online. I do not have a copy of the Census myself. NEW online on the Morgan Area Gen. Assoc. page (MAGA): http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmaga/index.html 1) 1855 Greene County IL State Census Much thanks to Marty Crull for volunteering his transcription/database of this Census. It is greatly appreciated! And also thanks to Allen Handling for his part in converting this to a usable database (from DOS) and Shirley for bringing it up for me to work with. I have posted this census in two version, one by Page number of the actual enumeration, the other by Alpha Surname with census readings. Both have their advantages as one can search the surname, get the page number, then go to the Numerical/Page readings and see who the neighbors were. Always check out the neighbors, there could be a married daughter living a few doors down or parents next door, etc.. 2) Everyname Index to 1860 Greene County Census - Surnames G, O, & Q have been added. Decided to jump around instead of staying in alpha order catching some smaller files to make it look like I accomplished more <g>. Upcoming: 1) 1850 Cass County IL Census (Shirley is typing as fast as she can, which is faaaasssst! She is doing 80% of these Census we are putting online. She's doing a great job, without her we wouldn't have a page.) 2) 26 more Obits to be added to Obit page. 3) A few more 1879 Greene Co. Bios 4) Morgan County Biographies are being added to the Morgan County ILGenWeb page. Shirley has sent Morris (CC for Morgan) several. Keep watch for these. It is a beautiful Spring Day here in Central Illinois and I am headed outside for a spell. Carol: Thanks you so much for your prompt response to my request for mailing list information for Yorkshire, England. Your message is very informative and helpful.. I have e-mail but so far do not have internet capabilities. I don't know either what county my ancestors were from. I certainly have a lot of research to do and appreciate the information you sent. I will keep the addresses in my file and hope to be able to use them soon. You were very fortunate to take many trips to England. I wonder if you have relatives living there now or whether your trips were for research. What a fantastic opportunity for research and to see the land where your roots began. Thank you again for your help and of your offer of future help. It is greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Helen Kirtlan-Fingado ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! Juno now offers FREE Internet Access! Posted on: Morgan Co. IL Query Page Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Morgan?read=156 Surname: Rout, Reynolds ------------------------- My gg Aunt, Ellen Perry Rout Reynolds, supposedly bilked my gg grandfather, Richard Clark Rout, out of a lot of money. Richard had gone to the California Gold Rush from Jacksonville, Morgan County, Illinois, and had come back successful. The family rumor is that Ellen took his money and used it to endow the Rout College in Jacksonville. I would suppose that this would have been around 1849 to 1851. I cannot find any record of the existence of a Rout College. Can anyone help? Thank you.

My ancestors migrated from North Carolina to Morgan County in 1829. Does anyone know what the most common route they would have taken or how I could find this information? John Seymour
My ancestors and the Gunn family also came from North Carolina. They left NC about 1810 and settled in Dickson Co., TN. Then about 1829 they went to Sangamon County for a while and then to Wright Twp. in Morgan Co., IL. My ancestors: John and Margaret (Mackey?) Wright. Because of some of the remarks made in the bios of John's sons, I believe he was a road builder, in charge of laying out the pioneer roads and their maintenance. Why do you think your ancestors came directly from North Carolina? Do you know what county in North Carolina they came from? Helen, there is not much actual data from England that is on-line, like censuses and so forth, although if one of your ancestors was in a certain profession, like being a doctor or a pub owner or soldier there are actually some files on=line that are helpful. The best thing you can do is to join the county mailing lists if you know the county they lived in. My ancestors were from Yorkshire as well and sadly, the Yorksgen list is more chatty than genealogy oriented, but you will at least learn a lot about the area by joining the list. People there are very helpful and willing to go to a lot of trouble looking up census data and such. Here is the GENUKI site address: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/ http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/ENG/ is another connection.I'll paste in some others just in case you might want to visit the sites. http://www.pro.gov.uk/readers/planning.htm http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/David_Squire/vg156fgo.htm http://www.gendocs.demon.co.uk./trades.html You can find the counties there, click on them and subscribe as usual. I have been on 5 different county lists and really enjoyed it and knowing the people on them. They were really helpful during my last trip with providing hints for researching there. The nice thing is that England is so old they have ancient records by the ton in vaults so it is really interesting looking through all the old books. A real history lesson! Hope this helps you a little. I'm happy to try to answer any questions you have about Yorkshire since I have been there fairly often and spent 1 week there doing research last October. Can't guarantee I'll have the answers but and glad to share what I learned. It was quite an experience! Sincerely, Carol Dugger
Carol: Besides having many ancestors from Morgan Co., I also have a great, great grandfather, Thomas Kirtlan, who came from Yorkshire, England in 1797. You mentioned in a message to Tom, on the Morgan Co. list, that it is possible to subscribe to Genuki by e-mail. Do you have a complete e-mail address for them or do you have any suggestions on how I can get information from England on my ancestors? Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.
