    3. **NEW - MAGA Web Site Revised (Morgan Area Genealogical Assoc.): As the Home/Index Page was getting way too large and taking longer to download, because of all the info we have been putting online, I have now created a NEW Index - Page 2. Until you get used to this, you might very well have a hard time finding your County of interest. However, there are two Links on the Home/Index page...all you have to do is Click. I have kept Morgan County as the Home/Index Page (afterall that's where we started <g> and it is the biggest) http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmaga/index.html and put the Counties of CASS, GREENE, MACOUPIN, MENARD, SANGAMON and SCOTT on Index Page 2 http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmaga/p2index.html Remember this Index Page 2 can be accessed from the original Home Page by Clicking on "Index Page 2", so one doesn't have to remember the URL :-) Looking ahead, we have several more County Census to put online. I am in the process of working on 1880 Greene and it should be up in a day or two, thanks to Allen and Marty for contributing and making the database workable. It was originally transcribed by Ben & Thelma King. Also you will eventually see more Census online for all Counties in our area (Scott is already online through 1880, with Greene right behind). And Shirley is on the tail end of the Probate/Estates for Morgan County. More will be uploaded later tonight. These go from early to the 1960's As a result of so many resources we are putting online, eventually each County will have a separate page all its own. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all the messages of appreciation we have been receiving and that have appeared on the Mail Lists. As our goal from the beginning was to make available all known, uncopyrighted, free resources, we feel we are contributing tremendously for all those pursueing their family lineages. Your comments verify that. Thanks to each and everyone of you! BTW, after changing and uploading so many pages, I no doubt made some linking errors, so I would appreciate anyone pointing these out to me if you find one. Thanks. 3. NEW Online Morgan Area Genealogical Association (MAGA) Page: 1) Morgan County: Estate Administrations, Probate Court Surnames F thru Q, U, V, Y & Z have been added. Now all that is left remaining is R, S, T, & W. A hint on the approx. year a probate might be: The Probate # is an indication, in most cases. Obviously they started with #1 back in time of formation of the County. But the first few years, up to 1827, were lost in a fire at the Courthouse, only some deed records survived. So the lower the Probate # the earlier the year. So if you are looking for someone who died in 1837, for instance, it would not be a number as large as #7989. No doubt it would be a two or three digit number. If a number has a dash in it, such as 54-30, it usually indicates that it was for the year 1954, probate #30. Some of these go to the 1960's. 2) 1879 Greene County History Biographies: Surnames BRADLEY & LAKIN Good luck, Mary Ann -------------------------------------------------------- Shirley Aleguas & Mary Ann Kaylor Morgan Area Genealogical Association & Waverly GHS http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmaga/index.html Dedicated to Free Online Resources for Central IL MAGA Mailing List: [email protected] My Family Genealogy http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~makaylor/index.html

    2. Who couldn't agree that the Morgan County site sets the standard for what we would like all county sites to be. I sure wish that the coordinators for the other counties had the same expertise, insight, and enthusiasm as Morgan County's site. I just wonder if the other counties are even aware of the excellence of Morgan County. They should really take a look so that they could strive to be as good. Fortunately for me, my family history is heavily rooted in Morgan County and I, too, extend my thanks for a job well done. John Seymour

    3. Carol, I agree absolutely. I have been researching Smith family in Jacksonville, IL for two years and have amassed a huge amount of info thanks to the great people in Morgan County and the MAGA. I don't think there are people anywhere in the world who are as dedicated and helpful. One of the Smith descendants died in Berkeley, CA. Do you,by any chance, know of some kind soul who would look up an obit. for me in that area ? Marion Baker, in St. John's, NF Carol E.
