Hello Marsha, Well, you are very welcome! I will look in the Court house and see what I can find for you. Give me some time, okay. We have been pretty busy, being summer and all. But, I will get there and get whatever information I can for you. Send me the name of the other daughter that you have. I will also check at the Health Dept., I'm not sure how far there records go back, but I will dig for you. I will also check to see if they married in Spencer County. If they did, I get get you a copy of the marriage license, okay. When you have time, write down what you would like to have checked out and send your address also. Just in case I find the marriage license, I will get it to you through snail mail, okay. Take care and will talk to you later, okay. Dorothy, Wow, I didn't expect this. Thank you. I'm not real sure what kind of records there are for Spencer Co. for the time period I need. Thomas & his family were there on the 1820 census. I have the census info. I believe their first three children were probably born there - from 1813-1823. I have no idea if they owned land or not. I also don't know if they were married there or moved there after they were married. Any suggestions? Today I tried to read the 1835 state census for Morgan Co. Unfortunately, there were about four pages where the names were missing. Does anybody know if there is a better copy anywhere? With my luck, one of those four pages is where my ancestor is. He's there on the 1830 census and has a daughter married in Morgan Co. in 1835, so he should be on the 1835 census. Also, is there a cemetery index for Morgan Co. cemeteries? This same man had at least one, probably two, children who probably died in this county. The man I'm looking for is Thomas ELLIS b. abt 1784 in SC. He and his wife (Judah WRIGHT) came to Morgan Co. sometime after 1820 from Spencer Co., Indiana. In 1840 they are in Adams Co., ILL. They had at least six daughters and I only have the names of two. The daughter who was married in 1835 is Judith (Judah) ELLIS. She married James Henry FINCH. Any help would be appreciated. Marsha

RootsWeb.com will continue to be free to all users and will maintain its own unique URL at http://www.rootsweb.com. "This is truly a winning combination for both organizations and for the millions of users who make up our audiences," said Greg Ballard, CEO of MyFamily.com, Inc. The union will provide RootsWeb.com with the financial backing to expand and the business structure needed to focus on preserving, sharing, and exchanging family history records. As part of the MyFamily.com network of sites, the RootsWeb.com site will be able continue its tradition of free access to information with additional technology tools, increased family research content, and a greater range of genealogical resources. "RootsWeb.com fits well with the MyFamily.com vision of creating the largest and most active online resource for families and family history research," said Dr. Brian Leverich, founder of RootsWeb.com. "This agreement will expand the number of RootsWeb.com users and content contributors. At the same time, we have ensured that RootsWeb.com content, services, mailing lists, and Web pages will remain free, while allowing the site to provide more functionality and resources to a larger audience as a result of our being part of the MyFamily.com network." Ancestry.com, part of the MyFamily.com network, has a seventeen-year history of publishing award-winning books, magazines, and CDs, and currently offers more than 600 million records and over 2,500 databases. More than half of the data is freely accessible to all Web users. Ancestry.com also hosts, free of charge, the Ancestry World Tree and Online Family Tree software, which allow users to connect and collaborate with other researchers who are working on the same lines. Ancestry.com users retain ownership of their data, and the company pledges never to charge for access to that data or to publish it. For those who prefer to keep their information a little closer to home, sister site MyFamily.com allows users to create free, private sites that can be used to post family history data, share news and photos with family, chat online, and much more. RootsWeb.com is a valuable resource for family historians, with interactive guides, discussion lists, and numerous tools for tracing one's ancestry; it hosts more than 17,000 independently authored Web sites and about 19,000 mailing lists. All of these services will remain free to users. As part of its ongoing commitment to the genealogical community, MyFamily.com, Inc. will also continue to support RootsWeb.com-affiliated volunteer, non-profit organizations, such as The USGenWeb Project, Immigrant Ship Transcribers Guild, The Free Births, Marriages, and Deaths Projects, and other groups that provide free genealogical content. The MyFamily.com acquisition of RootsWeb.com promises to make it easier than ever for family historians everywhere to discover their heritage. John is one of David's son and Charles is another son. Thank you!
Dolores, I recently posted to the list a story written by my grandfather that includes references to Bill Shelburn, who I believe is a grandson of Augustus. I don't want to bore the list by posting it again :-) but if you'd like it e-mail me privately. The Shelburns were neighbors of my great-grandparents, and Bill was my grandpa's good friend. I also still have an e-mail sent to the list by Don Matson on May 15 about the Shelburn family. If you didn't see this it looks like it would be on the Morgan Co. query page, or I could forward the post to you. Cathie Cox [email protected]
