Hello again. I just got back from Morgan Co. where I FINALLY got some information about my missing JACKSON family. One of the things I found was that they married into the FANNINGs, specifically, George W. JACKSON married Mary Jane FANNING Nov. 14, 1878. Mary Jane was 16 and had to get her mother's permission to marry him. SHe was b. in 1862 and died 1919 after having 5 children: Laura who married Louis SOOY, Clarence S. JACKSON, John William "Bill" JACKSON, and Arthur Clyde JACKSON. Most of them were buried at Youngblood or Murrayville Cemeteries. . The other one was Charles A. JACKSON,( who may have been called "Dick"), married Barbara A. ? (suspect FANNING ) no doubt around the 1880's and had at least 3 children: Roy, Zelpha who married a SITTON and another child name unknown. Does any of this sound familiar to you to anyone? I also got some obits, probates and marriage licenses and am beginning to flesh out the JACKSON lineage a bit more. Located naturalization papers for William Proctor JACKSON as well as some census records from Macoupin Co. where he and Martha Ann BROWN moved in time for the 1860 census. William was very good at procreation,as well as at borrowing money because when he died sometime after the 1870 Census for Macoupin Co he owed so much money to so many people that his widow had to sell the farm at auction in order to pay his bills! I can't figure out what happened to Martha, there is no sign of stray children to make me think she remarried, but yet there is no record of a death record for her or for WIlliam in eitherMorgan or Macoupin County though their graves are at Youngblood with several of their children (William N (probably Newton), Thomas M., and John H. (with wife Sarah A. )are buried there as well.m I have sent 2 JACKSON obits to Mary Ann for posting. So now that I have mentioned the FANNING , SOOY, MUTCH and MANSFIELD connections to my JACKSON and DUGGER branches,I am hoping that my cousins are now all going to leap forth out of the old family tree. Pleeeeeeeeze??!!! Carol DUGGER Napa, CA

IL Query Page Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Morgan?read=226 Surname: VAN NORMAN, KAYLOR ------------------------- We just HAVE to be searching the same VAN NORMAN family in Morgan County!! That surname is not that common so am crossing my fingers and toes I have Theodore Van Norman in Morgan County ca 1863 to ca 1880. Believed they lived in the Chapin area. Theodore was married to Amanda Johnston in Knox Co OH in 1832. There were in Randolph Co IN by the 1850 Census. Amanda supposedly died in Morgan County ca1880 but I have been unable to document this. Theodore went on to Buffalo, Dallas Co., MO after her death. They had the following children: Milville; Frederick Alonzo; Lamney Cerilda who married John KAYLOR; Amanda; Sarah; Nathan; Ellen; Oscar and James. My husbands lineage connects with Lamney Cerilda who married John Kaylor. There is a short biography on Oscar Van Norman in 1878 Morgan County History: VANORMAN, OSCAR, farm hand, Sec. 8, P. O. Chapin, fourth son of Theo. Vanorman, born in Randolph Co., Ind., Jan. 24, 1850; removed West with his parents when quite young, and lived in Iowa and Kansas; removed to Morgan Co. January, 1875; married May 22, 1874 to Sarah, daughter of Andrew and Laurene Barton, of Allen Co., Kansas, born May 22, 1857. This union has been blessed by two children, viz: Norah Ellen, born July 27, 1876 and Oscar Olaf, born Nov 30, 1877. Any of this familiar? I do not have record of them being in Philadelphia, not to say they weren't. I have Theodore born in VT in 1807. Send me pertinent info and I will see if I have some of yours in my database. Mary Ann

Somebody with the last name of Reeve married into my Dugger family back then. I remember the last name but can't find the first name or who who married my female Dugger. That was a whole lot of help, eh? :) Carol Dugger

Posted on: Morgan Co. IL Query Page Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Morgan?read=223 Surname: Arnett, Chilton, Givens, Kasling, Kesling ------------------------- Julianna, Saw your query about the Arnett family in Morgan Co., but your last name was what caught my attention. Are your Chiltons from Morgan Co.? My great-grandfather Givens (1816-1868) had a half brother, William Thomas Givens Sr. (1806-1879), who lived in Waverly, Morgan Co., who had Chilton descendants who lived in Morgan Co. from around the 1900's. The first Chilton that appears is Harriet Givens (1873 - 1941) who married Lee F. Chilton (1869 1956) in New Berlin, Morgan Co. Harriet Givens Chilton was the granddaughter of William Thomas Givens Sr. (1806-1879, Waverly, Morgan Co.). I have been in contact with Harriet's grandson, William (Bill) Thomas Chilton who lives in Springfield, Illinois, this past year. Would like to know your Chilton connection as Harriet Givens Chilton had letters written between 1848 - 1885 by Givens siblings of William Thomas Givens Sr. to William Thomas Givens Sr. and his daughters. I have searched for the originals of these letters but have never been able to locate them if they still exist, not only because of the Givens but because my maternal grandfather, Edward Stephen Kasling (Kesling/Kiessling) was born in 1857 in Jackson, Morgan Co. and died in 1941 in Cass Co., Texas. Edward Stephen Kasling's wife, my grandmother, was Nancy Caroline Givens, and she was a niece of William Thomas Givens Sr. I have copies of some of the Givens letters given to me in 1965 by a Givens cousin who had received them from Harriet Givens Chilton in 1935. Would like to hear from you if you are related to Harriet Givens Chilton and her husband Lee Chilton. Have always searched for the clue as to why my Kasling ancestors left Morgan Co. prior to 1880 and came to Cass Co., Texas where the Kaslings married into the Texas branch of the Givens family. Observed Julianna's posting in connection with Arnett family. Have no information to assist in her questions, however, it did raise a question with an Arnett connection involved with my wife's line. James M. ARNETT, born ca 1827 in Tennessee married Susan SHARTZER RYNEARSON in Morgan County, Illinois 20 May 1855. This was second marriage for Susan as first husband John S. RYNEARSON is reportedly to have died 13 October 1848. It is reported that James M. ARNETT and Susan SHARTZER had a son Charles Arnett born ca 1857 in Illinois and died 1902 in Jacksonville, Morgan County, Illinois. No other information is available in connection with this ARNETT connection. Would be interested in any information in connection with James M. ARNETT and this marriage and child. Also any information in connection with location of burial of John S. RYNEARSON if available. J. A.

I just returned from my research visit to Illinois and want to express my thanks to everyone in the Morgan Co. area for all the help and to congratulate them for having such a good collection of information at the Genealogical Society. The ladies in the courthouse were super, too. I was able to gather up a lot of data on my Jackson family, including a copy of my ggf's naturalization certificate, and it was my first time accessing wills and probate documents . I got a lot of great information about names and family data that way. Thanks to the website the job was made easier by all the on-line information. I had theprobae number before going to the courthouse and it just took a second for them to locate what I needed. We visited family graves in Murrayville and Nortonville also located by the website. The biggest problem was not having an actual map of the areas and we got really lost on some of those backroads! Fortunately folks back there were so nice and helped us find out way around. To those others of you researching the Jackson bunch, I was completely unable to discover if my ggf William Proctor Jackson came with any other relatives or if there were some present before he arrived from England. I was able to locate most of his children, which was good because now I have an idea of where they were. As for the Browns, boy I don't think I will ever figure that out. I found no death certificates for them and so have no other clue than that my ggm's mother was Catharine Brown. A real brick wall! Thanks to you all, Carol Dugger Napa, CA

Arnett, born in NC, moved to Morgan Co., IL in or soon after 1820 from Overton Co., TN. He is related to, either his son or his nephew, Thomas B. Arnett who moved to Morgan Co., IL at the same time as John B.. Another John Arnett, a man close in age to Thomas B., moved to the Morgan Co., IL between 1830 and 1835 about the time Thomas B. Arnett moved back to TN. Either Thomas B. or this other John Arnett is John B. Arnett's father. I have seen the Morgan Co. bio. of Thomas B. Arnett but see errors in it so don't know how much to believe of it. John B. with wife Elizabeth and his children moved to Pike Co., by 1840.
Hi Marsha, On the Morgan County ILGENWeb site there are two links to cemetery information that might be useful ... http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmorgan/morgan.htm http://www.tbox.com/isgs/ilcemetery-mz/morgan.html http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmorgan/twp-cem.htm Please let me know if they are useful to you. g.mo Morris Myers Morgan County IL CC -----Original Message----- From: Mashane [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, June 22, 2000 8:36 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [ILMORGAN] 1835 census Today I tried to read the 1835 state census for Morgan Co. Unfortunately, there were about four pages where the names were missing. Does anybody know if there is a better copy anywhere? With my luck, one of those four pages is where my ancestor is. He's there on the 1830 census and has a daughter married in Morgan Co. in 1835, so he should be on the 1835 census. Also, is there a cemetery index for Morgan Co. cemeteries? This same man had at least one, probably two, children who probably died in this county. The man I'm looking for is Thomas ELLIS b. abt 1784 in SC. He and his wife (Judah WRIGHT) came to Morgan Co. sometime after 1820 from Spencer Co., Indiana. In 1840 they are in Adams Co., ILL. They had at least six daughters and I only have the names of two. The daughter who was married in 1835 is Judith (Judah) ELLIS. She married James Henry FINCH. Any help would be appreciated. Marsha ______________________________
