    3. Mary Lou, Okay, so you say you did get my message telling you that I have FTM 7, etc. Great. I wonder why I got this message that it didn't go through. Oh well. I have been trying to put my McCurleys and Henrys in order yesterday and today. I just need to type a bit more into my FTM files and then I can send them to you. I can accept and send Gedcom files with my program, but I don't think any of the notes or photos will come through. If you can send FTM files, any version, that might work better. I have run into problems with figuring out the Henrys, as I have come across contradictory information in the various documents etc. I hope you or some one else on the list can shed some light on this. If you are interested, I have some nice photos of Susan McCurley and her daughters Ethel and Sylvia, and a family photo with Tom McLamar that includes their son Olin. I grew up in Bethalto, with frequest trips "up home" to the Scottville and Nortonville area with my Grandparents. For the last 22 years I have made the Carbondale, IL area my home. My address: Juli Claussen, 281 Glenn Rd., Murphysboro, IL 62966 phone 618/529-1024 Looking forward to collaborating with you! Juli

    2. MARY LOU RIDGEWAY
    3. Hi, Julie, Can't think what the problem is, since I got the first message from you directly. I didn't even see this message until I read Ralph Sheppard's response to you and read it in his message. I wonder if you have received anything I've sent you. I did have some filters up to prevent SPAM, but since I now complain about those instead of avoiding them, I just did away with the filters. Anyhoot, you can try [email protected] (but this one doesn't take attachments, if you were to send any). Or, I just recently set up another mailbox with Yahoo to see if that would help prevent some of the spam. This addy is [email protected] and it does accept attachments. Does your older version of FTM allow import of GEDCOM files? I can send you one with everything I have from George W. & Susan to today, if you would like. Funny, not only was I in Nortonville last weekend, I was also in the general area the weekend before hunting up an old Henry Cemetery in the middle of a cornfield. Well, let me know if you get this. In the meantime, I'm going to try to call both you and Janie this weekend, just so we can hear each other's voices. Talk to you later. Mary Lou >I'm so sorry to use the list to do this, but twice now when I've tried to email you back, Mary Lou, about our Henry and McCurley lines, it gets returned with, "data format error" and something about a spam network. I think your email provider thinks I am "junk mail" and is screening me out, so I cannot contact you directly. Can you give me another email address to reach you, or check with your email provider on this? In the meantime, if you send me your address and or phone, I can use that to communicate with you! Thanks, Juli Claussen<

    3. Posted on: Morgan Co. IL Query Page Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Morgan?read=237 Surname: Joy ------------------------- Billy, there is a great deal of detailed info on this family and Joy Prairie in the book, MORGAN COUNTY FAMILY HISTORY, 1976, by the Morgan Co. Bicentenniel Committee, 1977, Taylor Pub. Co. There are more than 2 pages on them. It says Joy Prairie was originally 1200 acres in the NW part of the county, about 7 mi. NW of Jacksonville, and that the original family homestead is still owned by an descendant (in 1976). The church was the Congregational Church of Joy Prairie. If you contact me I will assist you in regard to this book.

    3. Victoria, by all means go to the Morgan Co. Genealogical Society! They are extremely helpful and Mary Alkire knows EVERYBODY. (Tell her hello for me and that my research is going well.) At the courthouse (not far away) the ladies there are very helpful but you can only look at the indexes to the records and can't get copies of them without knowing an exact date or names, then it costs $7 for each copy whether or not it is the right person! Rather steep if you're only guessing. I could have found a lot more information had I been able to look directly at the books. Up in the probates dept. I handed the clerk the numbers I wanted and she brought the boxes out for me to look at then made copies for me for quite a reasonable sum, something like $1 for the 1st page and .25 for every additional copy after that, I think. The regular library has very little information so I wouldn't even bother with it. Macoupin Co. Gen. Society (Carlinville)has a nice museum and they have some obituaries there but not much else. The library in Carlinville is where most of the genealogy stuff is kept. Dorothy Woods is their main researcher person and there are files and local biographies, etc. The library has microfilmed censuses and plenty of stuff to look through including obits on file. The obits have no index so you have to know the aproximate death date . If you need to go to the courthouse you will find the ladies there are great, there is access to a copy machine both there and at the library. They will let you paw through any records all by yourself. There were no parking problems at either the library or courthouse in Carlinville, but Jacksonville was another story. We ended up parking at the regular library and walking over to the courthouse. Be sure to try a search for wills and probates at both courthouses because there is so much information available on them if you can find one. If you can find anything on the indexes online before you go and get the numbers it will save a lot of time. I just got back from a similar trip there and gathered enough info that I probably won't have to return again. It was a good experience and everyone I met was very helpful. Good luck with your trip and if I can give you any other hints write me off the list. Carol Dugger Napa,CA

    2. Carol E. Valantine Dugger
    3. Mary Ann, I don't think these JACKSONS were mine, although I don't know for certain. I think that William J. b. 1841 doesn't fit since my William Proctor JACKSON b. 1828 came from England, same for the John JACKSON who m. Jane NICHOLS. Now the James F. JACKSON who married Elizabeth DUGGER interests me very much. All the DUGGERS are related to me in some way or another. Do you have a birthdate for her or a marriage date? I suspect she may be the daughter of Dred DUGGER and Sirena HART from Morgan/Macoupin Co. but need a little more information to make that leap. Their Elizabeth was b. 1859 and that could be a bit young--though not impossible-- for a husband b. in 1843. Carol Dugger

    1. [ILMORGAN] Research tip-where are they buried?
    2. Barbara Guinn
    3. Food for thought - We are always searching for that lost member of our family, no clues as to what happened to them. We cannot locate a will, no cemetery shows records etc. Well here is a history note that may hold some clues, something I had not considered before. If you family moved a lot or were early pioneers always heading west consider the number of deaths on the trail, all who died this way were left in hastily marked graves and unless someone noted in a diary or bible their deaths would go unrecorded. I had not thought about those untimely deaths during travel and did not consider the number that died. My family lines did not go West but they did a lot of traveling opening up several states, Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois and Nebraska. I have been doing some historical research and found several good books the one I am reading now this is an excellent book on women pioneers I picked it up at my local library [not genealogy] it has given me a new perspective on how our families lived and traveled during the early years 1847-1869. I quote from the book Pioneer Women by Linda Peavy & Ursula Smith Judging from the entries in womens diaries of the period counting the graves became a gruesome pastime amount travelers who feared that their own families might soon face such a fate. While there are no complete records of the number of people who died in the early 1850s, some wagons lost two-thirds of the number, and one emigrant estimated fifteen hundred to two thousand graves sites along the trail west; and there estimated five thousand. Those estimates might be low since Stanley B. Kimball has estimated that of the seventy thousand Latter-day Saints who mad the overland journey in wagons and handcarts between 1847 and the completion of the railroad in 1869 at least six thousand died along the trail from exhaustion, exposure, disease, and lack of food. Barbara in Katy TX ===== ALEXANDER,ALMON,BLANCBURN,BOWLES,BROKAW,CLIFTON,COLCORD,CONRAD/COONROD,HALL,HAMMON[D],KIGHTLEY,PLUMMER,PRATHER,RILEY The majority of my research is in the following states: MD,DE,NJ,VA,OH,IL,KY,IN,NB [before 1900] __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? You can imagine what a mess I have now and so I am doing what you are, going back and documenting everything I did. It seems especiallyimportant to me now that I am older and as nearly as I can tell am the only person who is actively working on this branch of the Jacksons and Duggers. Thank goodness that I am only just now making progress on the JACKSONs because I am documenting eveerything as I go along now! 3. Hi, Carol, Well, drat! I would love to have met you. I'm not doing much in the way of looking for new family members at this time. My focus is on getting what I have organized with the proper documentation, etc.. Hubby and I went to Nortonville this week end to see if a number of the pictures we had were from there. In my ignorance, when I first started genealogy, I evidently thought I would remember where I acquired everything. Well, was I wrong! So now, I'm having to backtrack to document where I got everything, where it was, and who told me. Sigh! Luckily, I only live about 100 miles away from all of this stuff, so it's a nifty day trip, but I'd rather be looking for new, rather than trying to verify old stuff. Have a good day Mary Lou

    3. Hi, Jan and Vonda, This info isn't precisely what you're looking for, but you might be interested. I was just at the Youngsblood Southern Baptist Church in Nortonville, Morgan Co., Il confirming some Henry ancestors that are buried in the cemetery there. This cemetery is filled with Fanning and McCurley names. There are McCurley names in my Henry database, so I did take a picture of Martha and Mary ann McCurley's stones. Those are the only names I remember and that's only because we were just there yesterday. Back to lurking Mary Lou
