    3. That sounds entirely possible. In researching my ancestors, I have run into at least a dozen or more "Old Settlers" such as him. In fact, search for "Old Settlers +Morgan County" and you will possibly find a biography for him. 3. Robert, I just checked the 1820 IL Census and there is a Benjamin Matthews listed in Edwards County, but that is quite a distance from Morgan...it is on the East side of the state bordering IN on the Wabash River. Earlier Edwards covered many Counties in Eastern IL but not in 1820. In 1817 Morgan was in Madison County and still there in 1820. It is possible the family was in IL as there were many, many early settlers before the state was formed in 1818. Somewhere I remember as census of sorts for 1810 IL, but don't find it on Ancestry. Surnames: Kitner, Crouse Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Ih.2ADE/1152 Message Board Post: August 20, 1890 Jacksonville, IL Another One of Morgan County's Pioneer Settlers Passes Away Seldom a week goes by without the death of some one of those sturdy, hardy pioneers who gave their best efforts for the growth of Jacksonville and vicinity when the state was yet in its infancy. Yesterday morning was marked by the decease of Henry Kitner, who came to the Prairie State over fifty years ago, and who, ever since his removal from the south to the fertile fields of this grand commonwealth, has been regarded in highest honor by all, neighbors, friends, and acquaintances alike. He was born in North Carolina on March 26, 1817 and he lived there among the hills and the pine trees which cover them, until early manhood, when he came to the then new west. He was married to Mahala Crouse in North Carolina, in February 1837, and of the nine children born to them, six, four sons and two daughters, are living, all residing in this county. What he has left is a standing, abiding, commentary on the strict integrity and uprightness of his life. He was a man of exceptional! business ability and left a large estate accumulated by the unremitting labor of years. His death was due to heart disease. For the past two or three weeks he had been unwell and his health, which has been failing for some time, broke down completely under the repeated shocks. The end which was expected several days ago, came at about seven o'clock in the morning. The funeral will occur today at 10 a.m. from the family residence, eight miles southeast of the city. All friends are invited to attend.

    3. Hello VINCENT researcher, I am not sure if we are looking for the same VINCENT family, but I have a James VINCENT (unknown dates) that married Thelma WARDELL. James was supposed to have died while traveling to New Mexico in 1990's. They lived in Beardstown, Cass County, Illinois most of the time, but in the early 1970's moved to South Bend Indiana. Thelma was born in 1915. She was the daughter of Charles Everett and Elizabeth Angeline BLACK WARDELL of Beardstown. James & Thelma's children were Elaine, Nancy, & June VINCENT.
