Walshville is but a few miles (maybe 5 or 6) from Mt. Olive. In 1899 Walshville was a thriving community. Walshville Baptist Cemetery is practically inacessable. Mt Olive has large cemeteries on the north side of town. Walshville is in Montgomery County, Mt. Olive is in Madison County. In 1899 deaths were "supposed " to be reported to the county. But in many cases that did not happen. I suppose the rules were not very tight then. And then with the deceased not living in Montgomery County the family may have thought it was irrelevant. But you would think they would report the death to their own county. But maybe not. If I were betting I would suppose Mr. Firley would be buried at Mt. Olive. As for the death index... they now have deaths online for those you died prior to 1916... but it's a work in progress, so not many counties have been posted as yet. Olive Herald he died in Walshville in April of 1899. According to the St. Louis Public Library Obituary Index, he died on April 10, 1907. (I tend to believe that the 1899 date is the correct one as he would have been 61 years old.) I have written to the Montgomery County Courthouse, but they have no record of his death on either dates. > > I am unfamiliar with the area. Can anyone suggest which cemeteries are in the vicinity?
