Judy my mother was born in Hillsboro, IL. when she went to get her birth cert. they told her that the court house had burnt down and the records were lost. Is there any other place that info may have been kept? She was born in 1914. I also have a lot of family from the area and plan on getting up in the area some day. Where would the best places to start there? Elaine Hohl Hutcheson Researching: Vogel, Beck, Oiley, Hall from Montgomery and area.
Elaine, The courthouse in Hillsboro didn't burn. The one in Coles county did around that time but not in Montgomery County. She should have been able to get it. I would say your best bet would be to start at the old courthouse, just go to the county clerks office in the old courthouse and they will be able to show you where the birth, death , and land records are and then in the new courthouse at the circuit clerks office for chancery and probate records. The Hillsboro public library also has a good genealogy dept as does Litchfield library.
