I have a letter written by George William Edwards* on February 3rd 1916 from 6638 Seeley Ave, Chicago to one of my aunts in England. In it he mentions 'Aunty Maud and Uncle Harry are well but Evelyn had a bad cold from the severe bad weather as I suppose you know it is below zero most of the time here in the winter months.' My cousin has two photos taken c 1920, which are embossed as taken by Whittlesey in Nokomis, Illinois. One is of a couple with a little girl and the other with two girls, so could be this family. 'Aunty Maud' could be Florence Maud Jones, born January 14 1881 in Shropshire, England to William and Jane (nee Dorricott) Jones - the sister of George William Edwards' mother, Lois. If so, we don't know her married name. We have not been able to find a marriage for her in the British GRO indexes. Alternatively there is knowledge that some relatives with the surname of Jones lived in Witt, but we know little about them. I am told that a farnhouse belonging to this family was left to the Mormons in the 1980s. They may have been the descendents of Jabez Jones, a brother of Lois and Maud who we know was in America in 1911. If these names ring a bell with anyone, we will be delighted to hear from them. Also can anyone suggest how we can find out about a property left to the Mormons? Denise Rason Kent, England
