What was the name of the Big 4 RR that once passed through Hillsboro? Is there a photo of the Hillsboro RRStation anywhere? I have looked for old postcards, but have come up empty. My great-grandfather, Albert Brown retired from the Big 4 RR after over 40 years. Many thanks! Polley Lawrence
About the big 4 RR, I don't recall the official name of it. Big 4 is all I ever heard it go by. It was a separate railroad from the Nickel Plate that ran through Ramsey, Fillmore, Coffeen, Donnellson and on the New Douglas. It was not a part of the railroad that ran through Litchfield. The Clover Leaf and the Nickel Plate were both common names for the same railroad, I believe it was named the Clover Leaf first, and the name later changed to the Nickel Plate. It is now the Norfolk and Western, with the eastbound track stopping in Coffeen. Bob McCollum At 01:21 AM 10/30/2000 -0600, you wrote: >In two different obits. My grandfather worked for the Illinois Central in Litchfield. It seems to me that the big four was the CCC&StL (Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis), but I'll ask my mom for sure.
