    3. Tammy, There might have been some unknown reason that your gg-grandmother did not wish to divulge to the census taker that there was no longer a husband living there. One of my recently widowed grandmothers, whose name was Sarah Frances, was identified as Male, head of household, given name Francis S. in a census. I have always wondered if it was an accident or a deliberate misleading...she was relatively young, with several children and trying to run a farm by herself, and maybe she didn't want it known that there was no man on the premisis. Or, perhaps it was just the way in which the census taker asked the question, or who he asked. I can imagine the census taker at the door and your gg-grandma answers. Census taker takes down her name, and asks "and what is your husband's name?" but Grandma is hard of hearing and thinks he asked, "and what was your husband's name..?". I understand that whoever answered the knock gave the info in most cases, and that if the family was not home, the neighbors may have given the info, so that leaves alot of room for error!
