Polly If your ancestors could write, there may be signatures on deeds or on wills. Also on pension applications or military enlistment papers. I have papers that just say, "their mark" and there is an X on the document. Regarding the divorce, that may be more difficult now. About 6 months ago I wrote to the County Clerk's office in Hillsboro and asked if there was a Davis Versus Davis court case about 1872 and they came up with a copy of the divorce. However, I visited Montgomery county last week with the intent of trying to find other court records and I was told that the court records had recently been cleaned out of the clerk's office and were now in the basement in the courts building. They were in disaray and did not have time that day to help me. I have a lead on a researcher whom I hope knows their system and can look for me. I have not had a chance to contact them yet. Hope this helps. Bob Drennan [email protected] wrote: > I am trying to obtain signatures of my ancestors to scan & place under their > portrait.
