Thank you to all who have submitted Davis information after my query about Martha Russel and James Davis. My James Monroe Davis was born in Williamson co., Tennessee in 1817. His parents moved to Montgomery county about 1830. When James Davis married Mrs. Hester Ann Thurston Kirchner April 2, 1878 in Bond county, he stated that this was his sixth marriage. I know that he married Mrs. Arminda Holbrook Lindley twice in 1842. The second marriage to her was because her divorce from James Lindley was not finalized. So, was this two of his six marriages? I do not know. Arminda appears to have died before 1860 because I cannot find her in the census but can find him and their two children. I also know that he married Mrs. Sarah Titsworth Finney in 1870. She divorced him. That leaves me two or three marriages to find. One possibility was Sarah Radliff who married a James Davis in 1857. Sarah is a guess. No Radliff or any variation of that name is found in the 1850 or 1860 census for Bond or Montgomery counties. This accounts for possibly only 4 of the wives. That is why I was interested in Martha Russell as the other possibility. However, Martha is listed in the 1850 census with her parents and Martha has two Davis children. One of them being born after my James Davis was married to Arminda. I have no reason to believe that he was a bigamist but I would be interested to know who Martha Russell was married to just so I can cross him off of the possible list and then can look for other possible wives to make up the other 5 marriages. BTW, there is another James M. Davis from Tennessee who lived in Montgomery county at the same time. This James Davis served in the civil war. Researching the Davis line is certainly a challenge. In Montgomery county, I am researching the following families: DAVIS, HOLBROOK, CAULK, GOSSAGE and VOYLES Thanks to all and good hunting Bob Drennan
