    1. [ILMONTGO] German Newspaper 'Ostfriesische Nachrichten' - later 'Ostfriesen Zeitung'
    2. Boyken & Boyken Partners
    3. Dear Listmembers, The old German newspaper "Ostfriesische Nachrichten" was published by Pastor L. Hündling [Huendling} in 1882 in Iowa as a connecting paper between the people in the new American settlements and die old homeland with news and events in Ostfriesland and the "New World". Later you could find this newspaper all over the U.S. and Ostfriesland. For the period between 1882 and 1915 the issues were microfilmed around 20 - 30 years ago. According to a descendant of Pastor Huendling about 10 years ago, most of the issues between 1916 and 1971 got lost on the way to a processing center to be microfilmed. Besides Rev. Kenneth DeWall and others, who published in the past some indexes of (only) obituaries, we started in 1997 reading each newspaper for 1882 - 1915 and 1916 - 1971 (single issues) from the front to the back and taking all of the personal data in obituaries and local news into computer files. We added also interesting stories about the events in the New World - especially for the German readers -. So far we have listed 10,300 names of deceased between 1882 and 1915 plus 12,300 names of relatives, and until 1971 only 2,000 deceased / 5,000 relatives. Now we are looking for issues of this newspaper between 1916 and 1971. The undersigned would appreciate your answer if you have access to those issues. We have the microfilms from Crest Information Technologies and Heritage Crest, both in Cedar Rapids, IA. Most of the single issues after 1916 are scattered all over the U.S. and Germany. We guess, maybe finding them in the attics, etc. of old East Frisian settlements in the States. Thank you very much in advance for your help in preserving the data. Sincerely, Hans-Georg Boyken Ostfriesland-Society of Iowa, Inc.

    3. I don't find John Browing in the 1850 census. In 1880 Sharon Twp his is listed with his family. 3. I suppose the only way to find out who Nancy Francis Whitten's parents are is to make a trip to the courthouse and look at the marriage records. As soon as I get a day in town I will check it out. The 1850 census was done in Oct...too late to see if she is part of the household. 3. Patricia: May I ask a favor of you? Could you look in your Warren County, KY. marriage licenses list and see if you are able to find one for a Jacob TINKER and Sarah (Sally) Crickman OZBROOKS? She was the young widow of a Michal Ozbrooks who died earlier in that year. Information I have indicates they were married on 13 October 1813 in Warren County. I am wondering if your license reference has any other information about them. Thank You! John E. 3. Which of these marriages would be the children of James Kirk and Margaret "Peggy" Whitten Casey. 3. James Kirk may have married Margaret Renfro but if his 1st wife Margaret "Peggy" Whitten Casey married him in 1843 and she died in 1859 he was still married to her unless he divorced her or this is a different James Kirk. Tim

    3. 1880 CENSUS--Ramsey, Fayette County, Illinois. Marion Wetherly 39 farmer TN TN NC Elizabeth 40 KY TN VA Sarah Whitten mother-in-law 80 KY NC NC Ada daughter 12 IL I have Elizabeth's year of birth as 1826 in my database. This census has her born c. 1840. 14 years is too big a difference. When I looked back at the 1850 census household for Elisha Whitten, Elizabeth is 24 years old. So, either they messed up the ages on this census or this is a different Elizabeth, not Elizabeth Whitten. This Elizabeth's parents' places of birth do not match Sarah and Elisha. Perhaps Marion married Elizabeth Whitten first, then this Elizabeth. I don't know. I can't access my genealogy.com census subscription so can't bounce this info against the 1870 census. Lynne

    3. Lynn probably Sinai Kirk is Siner Casey dau of Samuel Casey she would be 18 years old in 1850 and married in 1852 to Holloway Sears Prater. Census taker probably took her as a Kirk which would be explained James raised her from age 10 or 11. Margaret m. in 1843. 3. A James Kirk may have married Mary Renfro but he would have had to divorced Margaret "Peggy" Whitten as if her death date is correct she was still alive when James married Margaret Renfro, unless death date of Margaret Whitten is wrong? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lynne Evans" <evans6@bellsouth.net> To: <ILMONTGO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, August 30, 2003 6:07 PM Subject: Re: [ILMONTGO] Casey/Whitten/Prater/Johnson > Wouldn't you know IRAD would be down when I wanted to recheck marriage info. > I was able to look up James Kirk on the 1850 census and he is married to a > Margaret.
