You may be able to locate it in the 1920 census. Do you have a name that would have been there? The only info I have on the Montgomery County Home was it was in Eastfork according to the 1920 Census. Is this the same area you are referring to? Thanks. Dick.
All the info I have on the Montgomery County Home is that it was in Eastfork. Is that the area you are referring to SE of Hillsboro? Thanks. Dick.

Are you thinking of the "Poor Farm"? It was located a short distance SE of Hillsboro. In fact, the Graham Correctional Center (the prison) is located on a part of the old farm. It was south of Rte 185. Bob in NM At 06:08 PM 1/21/2004, you wrote: >Can anyone tell me what the Montgomery County Home was or is. Looking at >the period of time around 1920. >Thank. Can anyone tell me what the Montgomery County Home was or is. Looking at the period of time around 1920. Thank. Dick.
This was probably the Poor Farm. It was out near what is now route 185 and 9th Ave. where the Graham Correctional Center is. The cemetery is extinct, but there is a listing at the Courthouse in Hillsboro. Thanks to Joyce and Ed Thomas for the internet site for the Pythias group. It sounds like they were a very active and helpful group to society. Thanks for the help. Dora -----
Dora, give me the Lot numbers and area of town & I'll check to see if I have those pages. Tiss
Does anyone know if Illinois has a database for divorces? If not how does one find a date of divorce in order to search them in the county courthouse? Thanks dc
This was one of the many "social clubs" formed in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Check out the web site below. Tiss http://www.pythias.org/
Ok Thanks I went to the internet and found it. I did not think it existed anymore since it was a 1916 electronic newspaper I was reading. Thanks for the push off to find it. Click here: The Order of Knights of Pythias
I was reading a 1916 Edwardsville Intelligencer today and it mentioned the Knights of Pythias. Anyone know what this is and what they did? Thanks Dora
Hello members Thank you to responses from Darren and Tiss. Yes, I have tried the IRAD (not found-call the courthouse) and also talked with the Montgo. courthouse who recommend finding someone to look for me. I have the actual lot number and city area with the names of the sellers in 1921, BUT I wanted to know about the previous owners who are family too. I do not know when they bought the property and am searching for that information. Thank you for your responses. I knew someone might have a suggestion. Dora
The deed index and record for Montgomery County appears to be available thru IRAD for that time: http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/irad/iradholdings.html I haven't requested deed records for Montgomery county, but the copies I received for Madison county list the buyer and seller. Call the ph# listed for the UIS depository to request the search, copies are typically 25 cents a pages, dollar minimum. Do you have an address or know what part of Litchfield they lived in? What was the name? If you can provide more info, I may be able to help. Several years ago, I looked up and copied many property deeds or what ever they call the ownership history of a piece of property. If you decide to write to the Genealogy Society of Montgomery Co, their address is Montgomery County Genealogy Society, P.O. Box 112, Litchfield, IL 62056. However the place where these records are held is the Hillsboro, IL Courthouse. You would probably be better off righting to them. I don't know if they do look-ups or not. Tiss
Linda, got message just fine. Tiss

Hello all I am searching for information on some property in Litchfield, IL that was sold by my family on November 25, 1921. I am searching information on the previous owner/owners. I was told that someone outside of the county courthouse needed to search this for me since I was out of state. Does anyone know how to do this? If so, I would appreciate your input. Please answer me at my private email. Dora dorac@comcast.net
