    3. There is a Cress Hill Cemetery on the USGS, United States Government survey map 7.5 Montgomery County that has the road system on it. Try that. If that doesn't work, send an Email to Sandy Leitheiser at the County Clerks Office in Hillsboro. They will give you directions I am sure, Rev. 3. Does anyone know how to get to Cress Cemetery aka Hill Cemetery? I know there is a Cress Hill Lane just off Chapman T Trl. and according the the Montgomery County Cemetery location maps it appears to be south of where the road turns right. My g-g-grandfather lived on that road in the mid 1800's as did the Moore's and Chumley's. Thanks, Linda

    3. Warren: In the 1951 Hillsboro phone book I found a Beach family. A T.A. Beach, a dentist, who lived on St. Louis St. I found no Beach's in the current phone book. I'll ask my husband if he knew her. As for your other question regarding a Sodersinski. I did not find that name in the 1945, 1951 or the current phone book. I'll ask my husband about him too. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mokurai" <mokurai@dodo.com.au> To: <ILMONTGO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, March 18, 2004 4:41 PM Subject: [ILMONTGO] Peggy BEACH > Hi all, > > This is not genealogy as such...but rather a look for a person who was my pen pal back in about 1952 when I was 8 or 9. at the time I lived in Auckland, New Zealand at a seaside resort called Weymouth. 2. Mokurai
    3. Hi All, Whilst with the Far East Fleet in 1962-3 I was on HMNZS Taranaki. During this time I met a number of Marines off the American ship USS Topeka. My nickname was Speed (no not drugs...the speed with which I moved!). Anyhow I met this guy from Hillsboro, Illinois who was a Marine and RC. I know this because he gave me one of his dog tags. My three boys grew up playing with this until finally it disappeared. I have often wondered what happened to him and would like to know if anyone on this site know of him. Sorry....I can't remember his first name....if it was on the dog tag. Maybe if you ask all the men with the surname of Sodersinski (no guarrantee on the pronounciation either!) he may remember. I kidded him along that I too was American and lived in Hillsboro, Illinois. Kiwis are good at changing their accent eh. I was 17...18 at the time so assuming a similar age he would be in his 60s. Thanks. Hooray, Warren C. O. Power in Ballarat, Australia (ex Kiwi).

    3. Taylor Springs is alive and well just to the south of Hillsboro. Although way smaller than it was some years ago. If not for the color of the street signs you wouldn't know you left Hillsboro. Also to Chandra, The undertaker was Fred Welge. Decendants still live in the area. As for the records at the Montgomery County Courthouse. I have found them to be very cooperative in obtaining a copy of birth, death or marriage records. The books are available to look at any time. If you want you can make copies of the stuff recorded in the books at a cost of 25 cents per copy. If you want a copy of the actual marriage license, death certificate or birth record it does cost $10. Most death records in the books tells where the person was buried. 3. Hi Everyone, According to my great-grandmother's obit, her sister Clara (Burgan) Row was still living in 1951. Hopefully this will help anyone trying to find burial information on her. I would be interested in the info too. Also there was a Ben Franklin Burgan that I believe to be their father buried at Clear Springs. All other records for their father have shown him as "Frank" and the birth year doesn't quite match the other 2 dates we've found, but Clara was the informant for the Death Certificate. He died Dec 11, 1916. The undertaker's name looks like Fred W. Wilge of Hillsboro. Does anyone familiar with the area have any information on him and where his records might have ended up?? Thanks!! 3. Chandra, I forgot. I thought Row and "springs" sounded familiar. My GAunt, Ina Crites married Sam Row on July 26, 1919 in Hillboro. He was the son of Peter and Polly (Peterfield) Row of Taylor Springs Illinois. That was very near Hillsboro, if it is still there. Rev. Dewey Leon Everts Jr.

    3. Chandra, Contact Sandy Leitheiser, County Clerk, Montgomery County Courthouse, PO box 595, Hillsboro, Illinois, 62049. All birth/death certificates cost $10 per name and the ten is not refundable if it is or IS NOT recorded. Birth or death certificates are not always available for certain dates. Her phone number is 217-532-9530. Before a certain date in Illinois, they were not required to be filed. Sorry, do not know the date. Barbara Heflin at the Secretary of States office at the Archives in Springfield can provde some records for some dates. IRAD can provide some, but not if the County won't permit them to do so. The county makes a bundle off what should be public records. You can go to the courthouse and ask to see it; if a death certificate is not sealed by the court, it should be avaialble to the public. Same as birth amd Marriage records. THAT is part of the purpose of their recording. Rev. Dewey Leon Everts Jr.

    3. Hello list: Others on this list have had good luck finding cemeteries in Montomery co. I was born in Montg. Co., but live in New Mexico. I have an ancestor David Sturgeon who was buried in a private cemetery that is located on the Brohammer farm in East Fork Township in the corner near a curve in the road. About 5 or 6 years ago, I visited that location. Mr. Brohammer allowed my cousin and I to go into his horse pasture and search for the gravestones of the burial site. We were able to dig up several stones that were buried under about 3 inches of dirt. We found the stone of David Sturgeon, plus some of my Sanders line. I have asked the Montg. Co. Genealogical Society to go to this location, and get permission from Mr. Brohammer to locate as many of the stones from this cemetery as possible and have them recorded. After 5 or 6 years, they have not done anything about it. Does anyone know anything about this private cemetery, and do you know of someone that might be able to check into getting these stones recorded? I am afraid they will again be buried, and the stones will be forever lost. I would really like to see the area roped off, or fenced off and preserved. Thaniks for any information you can give. Ilene Husman Jones

    1. [ILMONTGO] look up Litchfield City Hall.
    2. Dewey Everts
    3. Will someone do me a favor and contact the Litchfield City hall and see if they have birth certificates archived. When I was born in 1928, the Village Clerk, Gordon Olive, signed the birth certificate. My father Dewey Leon Everts and my Uncle Clarence B Everts were 1 and 3 years old when the census taker came though in 1900. Census listed surname as EVERTES. It is Everts. BIG difference. Montgomery County insists that there is no birth certificate filed with them. Clarence born June 1896, Dewey born June 1898. The County kept the $20 however. But they ARE sending me a birth certificate of an Everts I have never heard of. Ah, bureaucracy at its finest. Rev. Dewey Leon Everts Jr.
