    3. I saw in the newspaper that the Montgomery County Genealogy Society is going out to Hart Cemetery tomorrow and read stones. A while back during late fall kids did some damage out there and rolled off a couple of the round stones that sit on cradle things. I managed to get one back to it's cradle and put it back, but another is beyond the fence and is larger. Maybe someone can get out there tomorrow afternoon and help retrieve it from beyond the fence. I believe it's a McPhail stone and is near the back on the left. Linda

    1. Re: [ILMONTGO] FOUND: OLD WILEY FAMILY PHOTO
    2. Judy I don't know how to contact you privately but I am sure that Lynn Wiley was related to my father in some way. I am trying to investigate into the matter now. If you don't hear from anyone else please get back to me. There are Wiley's in my family's genealogy. Thanks so much. I know we are pleased in my family to find pictures of our ancestors.

    1. FOUND: OLD WILEY FAMILY PHOTO
    2. Dear List, I have rescued an old cabinet card photo of an infant named Lynn Arnold Wiley. It is identified on the back side of the card and also states he is 8 months of age. This photo was taken by Tennyson (Studio) in Litchfield, IL. I would guess the photo was taken someplace around 1900. It was purchased in central TX. The old photos are mostly unidentified. When I find one that does have ID on it, I try to return it to the family of that person. Just the history person in me I guess. So, if you are a family member, or interested in this photo, please contact me privately. Thank you, Judy in TX

    3. Judy in TX, That is very nice of you to do that. Not many people would go to that much trouble. I have found a lot of people on the net who are jewels. If you live in Illinois and you haven't found Barbara Heflin, the light of a genealogists life, you should. She is in the Secretary of State's Department and is the Illinois Archvist. I have never come across anyone who has as much moxie as she. Dewey

    3. Gloria I do thank you for sharing your time and energy to do this search for Frank Firley. As the rest of my family lives in Madison County (and I do have all the cemetery records for Madison County), your checking the Macoupin cemetery records for me is such a big help. The record of Frank's son Louis and his wife is a big surprise. I have been in contact now with the librarian at the Mt. Olive Public Library and my letter and check are in the mail. Perhaps this will have my answers. Thanks, too, for the links to the other websites. 3. If you are in the area< Hillsboro (county. seat of Montgomery Co), they are probably one of the most congenial places I have ever been in. They give you full access to the vital records, Deeds etc. You do have to pay if you want a documented copy and maybe that is all you can do by mail. The court house workers do not have time for lookups. Perhaps some one living in the area would be willing to look up something for you. Mt Olive is in Montgomery Co. Tiss

    3. Walshville is but a few miles (maybe 5 or 6) from Mt. Olive. In 1899 Walshville was a thriving community. Walshville Baptist Cemetery is practically inacessable. Mt Olive has large cemeteries on the north side of town. Walshville is in Montgomery County, Mt. Olive is in Madison County. In 1899 deaths were "supposed " to be reported to the county. But in many cases that did not happen. I suppose the rules were not very tight then. And then with the deceased not living in Montgomery County the family may have thought it was irrelevant. But you would think they would report the death to their own county. But maybe not. If I were betting I would suppose Mr. Firley would be buried at Mt. Olive. As for the death index... they now have deaths online for those you died prior to 1916... but it's a work in progress, so not many counties have been posted as yet. 3. Myra The online Illinois death index, which covers 1915-1950 lists only one Firley: last name first gender/race cert # date of death county township FIRLEY WILLIAM M/W Y-78 0000182 1942-05-09 MONTGOMERY WALSHVILLE TWP I admit this is the wrong guy, but since Walshville hits the only occurrence of Firley in the database, that part seems right. I know this doesn't move you toward your goal, but it does show you're on the right track. 3. Myra, a few years ago my Dad and I listed all the readable stones at Walshville's Baptist Cemetery aka Lemen Cemetery, which is SE of Walshville, and your Firley wasn't found, although many stones are unreadable. Neither is he in the earlier list of this cemetery by Walter R. Sanders, probably made in the 1950's. I would suggest trying to figure out what his religion was. If he was Baptist, he is probably at that cemetery with an unreadable stone. If he's Catholic, then he'd likely be at the nearest Catholic burial ground, etc. Good luck, Juli Claussen

Funny, sometimes, how things turn out. Actually Sam And Silas and Sim are al the same person. His name was Sim Silas Row. That is what I think it means. Of course, it could be Silas Sim Row, but there IS NO SAM. He died of a stroke. However, we know how Ina went. I have only 2 known sons for him with wife, Polly Porterfield. One was Silas S. Rowe, born June 1889. The other son was Fred and I have his wife as Anna - they married in 1909. I have nothing on Silas, except that he was living in Schram City in 1928 - according to his father's obit. It's possible that he went by a middle name of Sam. How much info would you like on the Rowe family? 3. Myra, that could be Franks son who took over the blacksmith business. The age fits. Rev. 3. Hello My Ancestors came from Montgomery County and also Madison county My 6thgreatgrand father Jacob Sr Baker died 1840 in Montgomery Co, he had son Jacob Jr. Baker living in same county and died 1854 and his first wife was Nancy Farley and she died after the 1850 census was taken. I wonder if the name Firley and Farley could be one and the same. Jacob Jr and Nancy were married in White Co., IL. Just a thought that they might be from the same families.
