Item #3. My error in the given name. Entry should be HERMAN BISSELL. Sorry.
Bruner, Naylor, Sims, Craig I may be on the wrong list, because I know my Naylors and Bruners were in Macoupin Co., IL out of Shelby, Spencer and Anderson Co.'s, KY - but I'll give this a shot! Craigs and Sims are very important since I know so little about them. Shirley Antrim

My ggrandfather LUTHER BISSELL bought and worked 160 acres of public lands in the Walsh-Sorrento vicinity in the mid 1850's. Is Walsh the same as Walshville?
I am also researching the Brown family from the Fillmore area. William Brown is my Grandfather. He was a blacksmith in Coffeen, Il. at one time. Thanks for the detailed info, Juli. Robert.
I also wonder if my 3 great-grandparents, WILLIAM C. CHAPMAN and MARY "Polly" CHAPMAN, are buried in Lemen Cemetery. They were probably Baptists and farmed in the Walshville--Sorento area from 1850 and later. Polly may have died between 1850 and 1860 as she disappeared from the census in 1860. William C. Chapman was still living in 1860. Does anyone know the origin of the name of the small village of CHAPMAN near Walshville? Is it perhaps named after William C. Chapman or one of his sons? These are the names I am researching: BROWN DONALDSON HUGGINS BARRICKLOW Possibly around the Fillmore area.
Have you sent for Calvin's pension records? Perhaps his wife applied for a pension after he died? I checked all my Blankenships but no Calvins or Williams. Sorry Lynne

Robert, It is a possibility that your ancestors are buried there, especially if they were of the Baptist faith. Another possibility is Kirkland's Grove, which is a little farther south of Lemen cemetery, nearer Sorento. I understand there are a number of burials in Kirkland's that were very early, especially of Scotch Irish folks who lived in that vicinity and a bit south into the Old Ripley area of Bond County, for whom no marker now exists. My ancestors, James and Jane (Thompson) Lingo, of Old Ripley area, are said by family tradition to have been buried at Kirkland's in 1835 and 1844 or 45, but there are no markers, and I've not found them in cemetery records books. I am just guessing, but those buried at Lemen cemetery, since it was next to the Baptist Church, were probably mostly church members or relatives of church members. Moses Lemen was the name of one of the earliest pastors, a pioneer evangelist whose family was instrumental in establishing many early Baptist churches in Illinois. When we inventory the cemetery, be it this week or in the Spring, we will certainly share that info with the list. Juli Claussen
I wonder if that is where my ggrandparents Luther and Hannah BISSELL are buried. They farmed in the Walsh-Sorento vicinity in mid-1850s, but graves have never been identified. Robert in CA.
Janet, Thank you for your time and information. Hello Everyone, This is my first post to the list, and it isnt a very good one. The reason being is that I am looking for my Calvin BLANKENSHIP without much to go on. I am sending this to the Illinois lists because I am thinking that since his wife was born in IL and her parents in TN, that maybe the Blankenship's moved from TN to IL, then to MO. Unfortunately I do not have last names for the women born in IL, but I figure that if I start shooting in the dark long enough, I will hit something. I estimate the Blankenship's migrating to IL after 1825. I found Calvin BLANKENSHIP married to DELIAH on the 1850 Texas County, MO census. Living next door to Calvin is WILLIAM BLANKENSHIP and his wife, PAMELA JANE. Since Calvin was only a couple of years older than William, I have to assume they are related, if not brothers, because they were the only Blankenships in TExas County at this time and they were both born in TN and both of their wives in IL (just thought that was interesting). SInce Calvin Died during the civil war (there is no record on him except a muster roll, since he was a confederate), he wasnt around when the government started asking where their parents were born. I followed Deiliah until 1880. I estimate her time of death between 1881-1883. I followed William, and he lists his parents as also being born in TN ..... although its a shot in the dark, is there anyone out there that has a link to a BLANKENSHIP's that had a son named Calvin, (who was born abt 1820-25) and/or William (b. abt.1823-1826). I do not have Calvin's parents names or their wives maiden names. I am hoping to connect them to someone who might be able to shed some light on this for me .... Thank you in advance!!!!
Searching for: James Henderson and Jesse (Cynthia) Bruce Any info on these would be great, Thanks, Barb

Hello, I would like to get involved in your network. My wife is descended from Thomas Gray McCaslin. His daughter, Mary Martha McCaslin, married William Laws in 1848. Their daughter married a Lewey and that is the line I am interested in but I am also interested in the LAWS McCASLINSs, and VAUGHNs. William Laws' father married an Elizabeth VAUGHN. Any info and introduction to others with info would be helpful. Thank you. Richard
