    3. Dottie, If you could locate John Dees' death record, it might state his burial place. If not, once you had the death record, perhaps you could check the local newspapers around the date of death for an obituary, which surely would give the cemetery. Our IL State Historical Library has many old newspapers on microfilm and will do lookups or inter-library loan. Good luck. Juli

    2. Hello, I know a little about this family. My gg grandmother's second husband was Seth M Keithley. He was a wagon maker from Indiana. His first wife was Anna Miller. If I dig deeper I might have some of his brothers and hisparents as they were in Montgomery County. I think he lived in Litchfield, IL. Stanley Paden

    2. Polley, I was born and raised in Hillsboro, Montgomery Co. Biggest thing around there is Shoal Creek, nothing close to a river. In fact the closet river is probably the Sangamon which is north of there in Sangamon County. Its not much bigger than a decent sized creek. Old Abe used it. Hope this helps you. I think they were making reference to the death. Brad Collins

    3. Hi. Since this is from an obit. it may not refer to an actual river but that she has died - as crossing the dark river of death . I am not familiar with the area but it is possible they were not referring to an actual river. 2. Pat Hansen
    3. I have recently discovered that my 3 great-grandfather, W.H. FERDON, who had been an auctioneer, was famous in Litchfield for presiding at the first sale of town lots when the city was laid out. Is there a history of Montgomery County where I could check to see if a biographical sketch of him is available? And, if someone has one, can I get a look-up? Although he lived in Woodburn for many years, he did spend the last 9 years of his life in Litchfield. Pat Hansen Phoenix, AZ

    3. Dear Polley and list, In regard to write ups on early pioneer life, there is an article recently put on the Bond County Genealogy web page that you may enjoy. It is a paper written on farm life in the county around the 1830's. Since Bond Co. is just south of Montgomery, I would assume that most of it would apply to our Montgomery Co. ancestors as well. Having several ancestors who settled in Montgomery County in the late1830's, I am interested in getting: a write-up of the prairie life at that time, as well as a map with the possible route from New Hampshire, Vermont, Ohio, and North Carolina. Are there any sources you suggest? I live in Georgia & would pay for copies of info that you may have. Thank you! Polley Lawrence

    3. What is your ancestry line or pedigree line with some christian names, dates and localities from your parent or a grandparent going back to these lines? Which __ LINVILLE? __ HAMPTON? __ HITTLE? __ KOONCE? I don't have a direct line but some ancestors relatives in Illinois married those surnames. I will look in my files for any names, dates and localities that you want to mention. I was raised west of Vandalia, IL. My direct line of ancestry with names, surnames dates and localities from me Beverly Jane (HIMES) going back to earlier ancestors is in the HIMES line link of our homepage. 1. [ILMONTGO] BARRICLOUGH-TURNER-BENNETT
    2. I am researching the family of TURNER-BARRICLOUGH. My husbands Grandmother was Edith May TURNER, daughter of John K.and Harriette TURNER who lived for awhile in Montgomery county and Bond County. I show Edith's sister Hattie TURNER married Joseph BARRICLOUGH. They were in Bond County on 1900 census with children Pearl M, Edith M, and son Frank E. which could be Ernest. that is all I have on them, and I would love to get more information on the children and their families. In, 1900 Harriette TURNER was a widow living with Hattie and Joseph. I am also researching BENNETT'S. My husbands g grandparents were Solomon and Melvina BENNETT. MElvina died in Missouri just before 1860, and Solomon remarried to Lucinda CULP. They moved to Montgomery County, Illinois before 1870 as they were on the 1870 census. Solomon apparently died between 1870 and 1876. Lucinda remarried to Benoni WILLIAMS Sept. 9, 1876 in Montgomery Co, and they had children Sidney J. Williams and Lillie Williams. Solomon and Lucinda had two children James S. and Mary C. I have no info on James and Mary and would love to find someone related to them. My Husbands grandfather was John Albert Bennett son of Solomon and Melvina. HE married Victoria Powell in Montgomery Co. Nov. 1867. HE later married two more times. the third wife Edith Turner was my husbands grandmother. John Albert had 16 children total by the three wives. Any help is appreciated. I would love to get info on Solomon's death and burial. Wadene Bennett

    1. [ILMONTGO] Lemen Cemetery List
    2. Juli Claussen & Tim Damian
    3. Dear Friends, Here is a list of the markers we found at Lemen Cemetery. I have photos of some, so if you see someone you are interested in, feel free to check with me to see if I have a photo of the stone. If so, I am happy to share with you. I also have photos of the cemetery itself and area around it. Please feel free to email me if anyone has questions. Juli Claussen LEMEN CEMETERY (aka Mt. Kingston Cemetery, or Baptist Cemetery) Read Oct. 19, 2000 by Neil and Juli Claussen This cemetery is approximately 1 1/2 miles south east of Walshville, Montgomery County, Illinois, at the original site of the Walshville Baptist Church and school, on land of William Cline. Neglected and overgrown, there appear to be many graves without stones, and many stones are broken or buried. The great grandson of William and Jane (Bryant) Cline stated that they and almost their entire family were buried here, yet only a stone for the oldest son, Reuben H. Cline, was found. Those for whom additional notes appear at the end are marked with *. ALLEN, Alma M., wife of T.J. Allen, died Apr. 23, 1886, aged 22 yrs "....a faithful partner in ..." (Only a part of the epitath was readable. These three Allen's appear on the same stone, accompanied by footstones, although only 2 were located.) ALLEN, Earl, aged 3 mos "To the Memory of Earl" ALLEN, Maudie G., died Aug. 3, 1886 CANN, Nancy J., wife of J.B. Cann, died Apr. 19, 1857, aged 24 yrs, 2 mos (Footstone, "NJC". Corzine, but only the base of a headstone was found. The portion of the headstone above the ground was missing.) *CRAIG, Lynn, died Aug. 7, 1849, aged 41 yrs (This is the Rev. Craig who was the first believed to preach in the area, at the William Cline home in early 1819.) CRAWFORD, James G., died Aug. 11, 1883, aged 11 yrs, 10 mos, 2 ds (Difficult to read. The years and days old are uncertain. A hand with index finger pointing upward appears on this headstone.) PALMER, J.L., born Dec. 13, 1852, died July 31, 1901 "MWA" "Gone But Not Forgotten" (This lovely monument is shaped to represent a tree trunk and has crossed axes under the "MWA", representing Modern Woodman of America.)
