Any suggestions on where I can go to get their signature? Also, I have ancestors who divorced in Hillsboro in 1870--where can I get info on that divorce? Many thanks! Polley Lawrence.

    3. Polly If your ancestors could write, there may be signatures on deeds or on wills. Also on pension applications or military enlistment papers. I have papers that just say, "their mark" and there is an X on the document. Regarding the divorce, that may be more difficult now. About 6 months ago I wrote to the County Clerk's office in Hillsboro and asked if there was a Davis Versus Davis court case about 1872 and they came up with a copy of the divorce. However, I visited Montgomery county last week with the intent of trying to find other court records and I was told that the court records had recently been cleaned out of the clerk's office and were now in the basement in the courts building. They were in disaray and did not have time that day to help me. I have a lead on a researcher whom I hope knows their system and can look for me. I have not had a chance to contact them yet. Hope this helps. Bob Drennan [email protected] wrote: > I am trying to obtain signatures of my ancestors to scan & place under their > portrait. Phyllis I have just sent the following email to the list, but noticed your interest in Jones so thought I would copy it to you separately in case you miss it amongst all the others. Best wishes Denise ____________ Sent: Tuesday, October 31, 2000 1:10 PM Subject: Harry, Maud (nee Jones) & Evelyn, Nokomis c 1920. I have a letter written by George William Edwards* on February 3rd 1916 from 6638 Seeley Ave, Chicago to one of my aunts in England. In it he mentions 'Aunty Maud and Uncle Harry are well but Evelyn had a bad cold from the severe bad weather as I suppose you know it is below zero most of the time here in the winter months.' My cousin has two photos taken c 1920, which are embossed as taken by Whittlesey in Nokomis, Illinois. One is of a couple with a little girl and the other with two girls, so could be this family. 'Aunty Maud' could be Florence Maud Jones, born January 14 1881 in Shropshire, England to William and Jane (nee Dorricott) Jones - the sister of George William Edwards' mother, Lois. If so, we don't know her married name. We have not been able to find a marriage for her in the British GRO indexes. Alternatively there is knowledge that some relatives with the surname of Jones lived in Witt, but we know little about them. I am told that a farnhouse belonging to this family was left to the Mormons in the 1980s. They may have been the descendents of Jabez Jones, a brother of Lois and Maud who we know was in America in 1911. If these names ring a bell with anyone, we will be delighted to hear from them. Also can anyone suggest how we can find out about a property left to the Mormons? Denise Rason Kent, England

    3. In the subject of your query I see you are interested in the Killpatrick family. I'm studying the Seymour family of Hillsboro, two of whom married descendants of the settler David Kilpatrick. Is this the family you're interested in? If so, let's share info. Kimball G. 'Kim' Everingham [email protected] -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, October 15, 2000 11:02 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [ILMONTGO] Paden, Beck, McNeil, Street, McBrain, Killpatrick, Wilson I am researching the above names. Much of my family lived in Hillsboro, and Litchfield. I am descended from Reverend James Street and Mary Newton of Hillsboro. I am looking for some of their descendants. My other ancestors were James and Margaret McElvain Paden. Their second son John Milton Paden married Martha Street daughter of James Street and Mary Newton. Their youngest son is Charles Milton Paden who married Lillie Angel McNeil daughter of Thomas and Julia Wilson McNeil. Lillie's sibblings were Julia McNeil (married Benjamin son of Moses Beck) Susan McNeil (who married James McBrain who came from Scotland) and Agnes McNeil (who married Jacob Luther Zimmerman) Julia Wilson McNeil then married Seth Keithley of Litchfield who was a wagonmaker. They are buried in Litchfield. the McNeils came from Alton, Illinois. ==== ILMONTGO Mailing List ==== List problems? First, read the Welcome Message that you received when you subscribed. 3. The Clover Leaf and the Nickel Plate were both common names for the same railroad, I believe it was named the Clover Leaf first, and the name later changed to the Nickel Plate. It is now the Norfolk and Western, with the eastbound track stopping in Coffeen. Bob McCollum At 01:21 AM 10/30/2000 -0600, you wrote: >In two different obits. 3. About the big 4 RR, I don't recall the official name of it. Big 4 is all I ever heard it go by. It was a separate railroad from the Nickel Plate that ran through Ramsey, Fillmore, Coffeen, Donnellson and on the New Douglas. It was not a part of the railroad that ran through Litchfield.
