Dorothy, No, I don't believe you know me. I begin researching about 1974 and started with a 10 page descendancy of the Busby family someone had compiled in the 1920's I believe. It didn't have too much more than names. I located Jerry Sammons through a phone directory for the Montgomery Co. area. Jerry & I corresponded for a short while before my grandmother and I had an opportunity to travel to Illinois in May 1974 and got to meet some of our "distant cousins". Jerry and his wife were extremely hospitable, had us over for dinner along with his sister Helen. (I don't believe we met Jim, but that was a long time ago.) He also took us to the old "Busby Farm" not too far from the quarry where he worked. We exchanged Christmas cards for many years, but I have not been in touch with any of that family for quite a long while and found out a few years ago by checking the SSDI that Jerry had passed away. I haven't checked the SSDI recently for Helen or either of their spouses and don't know if they are still with us. Is the Joyce Busby you just saw Joyce Rae Busby, daughter of Leland Ware Busby? I would be interested in any info you may have on the Busby's. And would be willing to share information with Joyce or any other Busby's who may be interested as well. Here is my Busby line starting with my maternal grandmother: Evadna Busby (m. Fred Blocksom) Walter Edgar Busby (m. Margaret Myrtle Watt) William Wallace Busby (m. Jerusha Ann Dunn) Phineas C. Busby (m. Lettie Hewitt) Mathew Busby, Jr. (m. Susanah Ritchey) Mathew Busby, Sr.(m. Mary Cade) Thanks for your response. Looking forward to hearing from you again. BTW, where is Silver Spring? This is in response to Donna's ([email protected]) query earlier today regarding the LANDERS family in Montgomery Co., IL. I am twice descended from the LANDERS family that lived in this area. See the report on my home page through the hyperlink below titled "User Home Page Genealogy Report: Ancestors of Susan Elaine 'Sue' CEARLOCK". In the above-mentioned report, see the following individuals: Generation 9, #256 George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK, #257 Rachel LANDERS, and their 14 children. Also, #258 Jacob LANDERS (brother to Rachel) and #259 Sarah (or Sally) JOHNSON, and their 10 children. Generation 10, #514 Henry LANDIS/LANDERS, #515 Catherine "Cati" (probably GOODNIGHT), and their 13 children. Generation 11, #1028 Christian/Christopher LANDESS/LANDIS/LANDYS, and his 11 children. Also, #1030 Hans Michael "Michael" GUTKNECHT/GOODNIGHT, and his eight children by his first marriage. Note that members of this LANDERS family are also distant cousins of President Harry S. TRUMAN. Henry LANDIS/LANDERS's sister Mary married the above-mentioned Hans Michael "Michael" GUTKNECHT/GOODNIGHT as his second wife. Michael GOODNIGHT and his first wife are also believed to have been the parents of Henry LANDERS's wife Catherine. Michael GOODNIGHT and Mary LANDERS were direct ancestors of President Harry S. TRUMAN. For further information on this subject, see my Sept. 26, 1999, posting to the GOODNIGHT list titled "Harry TRUMAN's TRUMAN and GOODNIGHT lines". The archives of the GOODNIGHT list, as well as most other Rootsweb mailing lists, can be accessed through the following site: RootsWeb: Genealogy Mailing Lists. One of the sources I have listed on my home page for my LANDIS/LANDERS research is the newsletter "Landers' Landings". Note that copies of those newsletters can be found at the following site: Sweet Potato's Landers Landings Newsletter Page!. Christoph (Christopher) HUHN would have died in the late 1800s ( he was born in 1794), but I do not know the exact death date and that is why I am hoping his head stone will give me his death date. Most of the family is in Ware's Grove Cemetery and I have seen one buried in Butler. I don't know which cemeteries in that area are the oldest because he probably would be there. Mr. Sanders told me that Christopher and Charlie HUHN are on the same lot. There is an infant son, Charlie, of John and Anna HUHN but the Charlie he is speaking of, I believe is Charlie that was born in about 1863 (son of William and grandson of Christopher). Mr. Sanders said there is a date of death and age for Christopher and only a date of date for Charlie. Mr. Sanders indicated that he would recheck the stones but it would be a trip from Litchfield of 40 miles round trip. Is Ware's Grove Cemetery 20 miles from Litchfield? Thank you for you help. Wares Grove Cemetery is north of Hillsboro. If you take the road that heads north out of town and follow it maybe 5 miles there is a sign that points you back west [left] and the cemetery is just down that road less than a half mile.
