In searching my wife's GELLNER-KOTTWITZ Monroe Co history, I have found info that may be helpful to all of us - maybe we're long lost cousins! They were a farm family, German, Evangelical & lived in Monroe Co, Moredock Pct, from at least 1870 (first found on census) until at least Mar 1887 when last know child was baptised at Zoar church, New Hanover. None were found on 1900 census. Association of these surnames has to be more than coincidence! Here's what I have so far - would sure love to have some more info: My wife's g.aunt Mariah GELLNER b. abt 1875, Monroe Co, parents Henry GELLNER & Wilhelmine KOTTWITZ, married Louis?? LUDWIG abt 1894-95 (place unk), dau Marie b. 20 Feb 1896 St. Louis, d. 14 Oct 1989, married John LAUX, one son Norman, a pilot killed WWII. Mariah's bro Julius b. 17 Oct 1878, baptised George August GELLNER, Zoar Evang Church, New Hanover, witnessed by George NAUMANN, August & Theresa SPIES. Don't know if they were related, but at least neighbors & good friends. Went by name August - deaf mute - never married - died St. Louis, date unknown. Census 1900 Monroe Co, Moredock Pct, Dwelling #58: LUDWIG, Charles, age 44 b. Oct 1855, Illinois, farmer, parents both born Germany Veretta, wife, age 37 b. Mar 1863, Illinois, parents both born Illinois, married 22 yrs, 7 children, 5 living, all born Illinois William, son, 17 b. Mar 1882, single, farm labor Mary, dau, 15 b. Sep 1884, single Frohny, dau, 13 b. Oct 1886, single, at school George, son, 4 b. Sep 1895 Lillian, dau, 2 b. Jun 1898 Sorry this is so long and confusing, but hope it helps somebody.
