Does anyone have any information on Peter Jacob Schmitt (Schmidt)'s first wife and their family. I know he married Elizabeth Rapp in 1865, but I understand she was his second wife. He was naturalized in 1862 and his naturalization papers indicate he had been in the U.S. and specifically in Illinois for nine years and was born in the Duchy of Nassau, Germany. So he emigrated from Germany sometime before 1853. I don't know if he married his first wife in Germany or in Illinois. Any info would be appreciated. My e-mail is [email protected]
