    1. [ILMONROE-L] Biography of Thomas William Eckert
    2. Peggy Kolm
    3. I came accross the following in my research of my Eckert ancestors. Although Thomas is not one of my ancestors, I thought this might be of interest to other Eckert researcher in Monroe and St. Clair Counties. Peggy Kolm [email protected] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Biographical encyclopaedia of Illinois of the nineteenth century. Philadelphia : Galaxy Pub. Co., 1875. page 307 ECKERT, THOMAS WILLIAM, Editor and Postmaster, was born on the 6th day of November, 1840, in Waterloo, Monroe county, Illinois. His father, John Eckert, settled at Belleville, Illinois, in 1828, where he married Ara Williams, of that place, and subsequently removed to Monroe county. After receiving a commonschool education, Thomas entered McKendree College, at Lebanon, and retained there until he graduated. After leaving college he began the study of dentristry with Dr. Joseph Payne, of St. Louis. At the expiration of two years he entered into practice with his preceptor. In 1856 he removed to Lebanon, Illinois, and there continued the practice of his profession for six years. He then relinquished his practice and purchased the Lebanon _Journal_ , which he has ever since continued to edit. It is now and has been from the beginning a strong and outspoken Republican paper, and its editor has always been an earnest, able member of that party. In August, 1875, he was appointed Postmaster of Lebanon, and continues in that position. He married on the 30th of May, 1860, Viola Calhoun, and two children make his home happier by their presence.

    3. Rebecca Huber died at "Round Prairie" and was buried in the Round Prairie Graveyard. This information was from a microfilm of Monroe County death records, book 1 page 71, entry 178. My maps don't show Round Prairie and the WWW points me to some place almost in Indiana. Is there or was there a Round Prairie in Monroe County? The Christian example and early death of his first wife turned his thoughts to religious subjects; he was baptized by Elder Amos Crandall, and soon began to "improve his gift," as the Baptist phrase was, being ordained in 1790. For a number of years he was in business, while his gratuitous labors as an evangelist and pastor were abundant and successful; first preaching in Bozrah, CT, he went to Hampton, CT in 1794, remaining two years; then removed to Killingly, CT, where he preached seven years; in 1812, he was pastor of a church in Leicester, MA, afterwards going to Swanzey, NH. 1. Re: [ILMONROE-L] TOENJES families
    2. Don't know if this will help or not but I have a Henry Toenjes listed as being buried in St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery (older section) in Waterloo, IL. I don't have any dates for him though. Am researching LEIDENHEIMER, KRACK, OEXNER, etc. who settled in Waterloo, some of which emigrated from Deidesheim in Germany. 1. [ILMONROE-L] WAGNER & HUBER of Waterloo?
    2. John Crossley
    3. This is my first time... I am looking for the parents of Phillip WAGNER and Elizabeth HUBER. Phillip and Elizabeth were married 19 Sep 1858 at Maeystown. Over the next 24 years they had 9 children baptized at Waterloo. The pastor in Maeystown tells me that the church records that would contain their marriage have been lost. (Darn mice!) Also he mentioned that the church at that time was in Wartburg, which is considerably closer to Waterloo. I have the LDS civil records for Monroe County on order. They'll arrive a week from some Tuesday... I have found some candidates from the Federal Public Domain Land Sale database that the State of Illinois has online: <http://www.sos.state.il.us/depts/archives/data_lan.html> In April 1835 John Adam Wagner purchased 40 acres in 2S 9W, near Waterloo In December 1837 Valentine Huber purchased 40 acres in 3S 8W, near Hecker in 1837 Valentine Huber purchased 38 acres in 3S 7W, on the far east border of Monroe Co. I haven't yet ordered the microfilms for the land sale and probate records. Can anyone offer me some advice? Some data???? 2. Jenelle Feezel
    3. I am a descendent of Frank Toenjes d. 1/9/1909 who lived in Monroe County as did his wife Elizabeth Pieper d. 11/28/1908. Where and when were they born and married? From what town/country did they immigrate? My grandmother Elizabeth G. Wessel, b. 4/28/1872, d. 6/26/1929 married John B. Toenjes, b. 1/17/1868, d. 7/28/1948. I need any help possible from Monroe County or otherwise in tracing these roots. Thank you kindly for any assistance you might provide. ---------------------- Jenelle H. 1. Re: [ILMONROE-L] Whiteside
    2. Whiteside station is in Monroe Co. between Columbia and Waterloo. The Monroe Co. DAR is named Whiteside Chapter. Pat Vaseska is also a Whiteside descendant. I believe you have her e-mail ([email protected]). A street in Columbia is named Whiteside. 3 MCGS members are researching WHITESIDE: Pat and her sister, and F. Warren Moore, a wonderful genealogist from Savannah, GA. His e-mail address is [email protected] Janet Flynn, Secretary M.C.G.S.

    1. [ILMONROE-L] Grandpa's birth certificate
    2. John M Coffman
    3. Can anyone tell me how to get a copy of my grandfather Henry GELLNER's birth certificate. I thought he was born in Monroe Co, but the Clerk's office has no record of him there, and neither does the Zoar church his family attended near New Hanover. His death certificate states that he was born 3 Sep 1883 in Illinois (no county) & died from an accident 15 July 1931 in St. Louis. He was a widower and his father was listed as Otiz Gellner, mother "unknown". The really frustrating part of this is that the info for the death certificate was provided by who my Dad said was Grandpa's sister (I have her birth cert from Monroe - father Henry Gellner, mother Wilhelmine Kottwitz). If they were really brother & sister, I can't believe she would not know mother's name! According to info I'm aware of, I must know the county to get the birth cert for that time period. I have no family still alive to ask. Can anyone help - Thanks Annette & John
