Dear Ed: The application blank and surname list can be downloaded from our web site. Just fill them out and mail w/ $10 to M.C.G.S., P. O. BOx 381, Columbia, IL 62236. Or I can mail you a hard copy if you prefer. Let me know. I'm working on the 1st Quarterly now and plan on sending it out the first part of January 1999. Back issues (2 years, since we've only existed since 1996) are $1 each to members. These are very helpful because they list all members and the surnames they are researching. I look forward to hearing from you. I hope you have a wonderful holiday. Janet
Dear Ed, Here is the information I have on LUDWIG from my own family files (mostly taken from the Monroe County Marriage Records and the Records of St. Paul's Evangelische Kirche, Columbia, Monroe County): 1. NAUMANN), age 23, Mondock, Monroe Co., IL on 28 July 1909 at Mondock Pct, Monroe County, IL 2.Theodor LUDWIG, age 24, railroad worker in Columbia, Monroe Co, IL married: Ida Caroline WILDE (d/o Mina nee SCHNEIDER and Philipp WILDE), age 20 of Columbia on 28 Jan 1917 in Monroe County 1.Frederick LUDWIG married Bertha SCHELLHARDT, had at least one son: 2.Phil Alwin LUDWIG,age 24, salesman Valmeyer, IL married: Katharine Wilhelmine Philippine LEPP (d/o Wilhelm LEPP, Jr. and Elisabeth nee LANG) age 23 of Columbia on 12 October 1919; at least one son 3.Harlan Oliver LUDWIG b. 6 Jun 1922, St. Louis, MO (baptized St. Paul's, Columbia) I hope this is some assistance. Merry Christmas! Peggy Kolm [email protected]
I am just getting started on my wifes side of the family - Theobald Ludwig and his brother Jacob bought farms near Waterloo in 1847. Her grandparents Christina Ludwig and wife Caroline Hoppe had six children while living in that area before moving to Jefferson Co MO. Any info would he appreciated. Ed Rogers
Ed: Our VP, Pat Vaseska, is related to the LUDWIGs. I am forwarding your message to her. Her cousin, Homer LUDWIG, is a mortician in upstate Illinois and is a member of Eagle Cliff-Miles Cemetery, Inc., an organization dedicated to restoring this old pioneer cemetery that was horribly vandalized. His parents and brother (died of polio) are buried there. Would you be interested in joining MCGS? Dues are only $10 per year and this includes 4 Quarterlies that are very informative. Janet Flynn, Secretary M.C.G.S.
Tom: I believe so, but I'll check next time I'm at the Library - probably after Christmas. Happy Holidays to you and yours. Jan
Patti: I'll make copies of both and send to you with your 1st 1999 Quarterly. I'm working on the Q'ly now and plan to mail in early January, before the first 1999 meeting. As you probably know, M & E = Methodist & Episcopal. Janet Flynn, MCGS
Jan: Is the former Methodist Episcopal Church old enough to have been around in 1850? I ask as my great grandparents were married by the Methodist minister May 7, 1850. Unfortunately, although the office of archives confirms Reverend William Cliff was the designated Methodist minister for Waterloo, nothing else is known of him or of his parish. Too bad, as apparently my Davis, Stone, Duvall, and Montgomery great grandparents were members of the parish. Merry Chrismas Tom Davis
Jan Im sure you know more than i do. but in any case i would love to have a copy of both and would pay the cost.. thanks pattie cooper [email protected] wrote: > Patti & Pat: > Isn't the M & E Church the one that was torn down so the ultimate eyesore, > Sunset Motel, could be built? Patti & Pat: Isn't the M & E Church the one that was torn down so the ultimate eyesore, Sunset Motel, could be built? If so, I have a copy of a brochure from the church in my file to be copied. We also have a picture of the church at the Historical Society. Jan
It would be my guess that it is the town of Waterloo (which is in Monroe County) and the M.E. may be Methodist Evangelical and Saboth would probably be Sabbath (as we now spell it). I do not know if it is still there or not because I do not live there but I have been to Waterloo. It is a great place for German history. Good Luck and Merry Christmas. In a message dated 98-12-12 14:06:46 EST, you write: << I am busy transcribing records for the Holzhausen an der Porta, Westfalen, Prussia, area. My primary interest is BERENEKING and RUFF. I am also becoming familiar with many other surnames in the area. >> How about a Nehring name? Linda
John - I'm researching my wife's GELLNER (variations Gollner/Goellner) and KOTTWITZ history. I first found them on census records for Monroe Co, Illinois (1870) shows Prussia as birthplace - have no idea where in Prussia. They were of the Evangelical faith if that's any help. If you run accross either surname, it would help immensely. The only known survivors are my wife Annette, her only sister and one cousin. Thanks for the kind offer - John & Annette in Indiana -----Original Message----- From: John Crossley <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Saturday, December 12, 1998 1:05 PM Subject: [ILMONROE-L] Holzhausen parish records >I am busy transcribing records for the Holzhausen an der Porta, >Westfalen, Prussia, area. John: I will put a notice re your activities in the next MCGS Quarterly (Jan. 1999) and let members know what you're doing and to contact you if they had ancestors from Holzhausen. May we have/buy a copy of your finished product? Merry Christmas. Janet Flynn, Secretary MCGS

They remain elusive! Thanks much, Janet. Marianne
I wonder if someone would kindly look-up, in the death index, Peter Christian PETERSEN and Catherina Schleth PETERSEN. I think they were living in Waterloo in the 1870's and 80's. I can find no record that they ever left there. Thanks, Marianne/VA
Marianne I checked the death index and the only PETERSON I found was Herbert Alfred, d. Nov. 8, 1958. There is one PETERSON on the 1850 census index, J.G., wife Susan, and ch. living in Fountain Precinct. No PETERSON on the 1860 census index. Janet Flynn, M.C.G.S.
